Hi Karl, Thanks for the extra photos. We can surely see how much these batteries are disappearing in the jungle these past few years. Typhoon damage is the main cause. Here are a few more photos from 2008 to 20012 when Battery Martin was easier to get to and easier to view. Four doorways of the centre magazine. The steps are visible looking out Gun #2 position. Gun #1 position is filled with rubble. At the rear of Gun #1 is one of angled concrete blocks positioned to brace the legs of the 155mm guns. The concrete wall is part of the magazine. Looking at the same angled concrete block from beside the magazine. A closer view of the block showing rusted bolts. This concrete embankment supports the road from Bottomside to Middleside. I am standing at the edge of the rail bed for the dual trolley line. Now for a few oldies. Battery Martin area taken sometime between 1939 and 1941. Trees hide the battery. Battery Martin shown within the circle in this 1945 photo. You can see the two gun positions and the centre magazine. From the photo left is the road between Bottomside and Middleside, the concrete embankment, the dual trolley line and the battery on the other side of it. A destroyed trolley car is further up the rail bed. Another view of the same area in 1945.

Do we have any info that Battery Martin was ever armed, or manned?

As far as I can recall no guns were mounted during wartime. In one of my conversations with Jim Black in the early 90s, he said it would have been cumbersome to move a 155mm gun to Battery Martin due to the presence of the trolley line. The magazine may have been used to store various ammo.

Nice research and fantastic photos, fots! Have missed your touring trips. I, like okla, was beginning to have withdrawal pains. (Karl has been doing a super, fantastic job in your absence). P.S.- Great job with the "new" maps, too.
