CORPORAL VOJTEK, THE POLISH BEAR After I received this story in the email I felt, this story deserves sharing with others. It is a heartwarming animal story. It also reminds us at the fate of Poland in the clutches of Hitler and Stalin in WWII. Some Polish soldiers and civilians were able to flee and were absorbed into the British Armed Forces and formed very effective fighting units. One Heroic Unit is mentioned here in the capture of Monte Cassino. What about the Polish paratroops in the story: “One Bridge Too Far”? I am sure there many other Polish units fighting on the Allied side. Our forum friend Louis Jurika sent it to me first and then directed me to the author. The author of the email wrote me this: Dear Karl, I’m happy that you enjoyed the story of Corporal Wojtek, and am even happier that you’d like to share it with others in your forum. Best regards, Luis Cabassa Note 1: If interested and if you have the time there are numerous pages in the internet with other pictures and more references. Note 2: Mr. Luis Cabassa made it easy for me, all the images have inscriptions attached and so I don’t have to write anything else. x743 x744 x745 x746 x747 x748
