I am writing an article on Gen. Edward King and his surrender of the Bataan garrison. I am looking for the following:
1. Any documents, memoranda, minutes of meetings, diary entries etc. from Feb. 8-10, 1942 involving President Roosevelt, George Marshall and/or Henry Stimson. As you'll recall, this was the time at which the U.S. government formulated its response to President Quezon's proposal to neutralize the Philippines. The result is what is commonly viewed as Roosevelt's no-surrender order to MacArthur and Wainwright; and
2. Any documents, memoranda, minutes of meetings, diary entries etc. from April 7-10. 1942 involving Roosevelt, Joseph McNarney (acting Chief of Staff in Marshall's absence) and Stimson regarding modification of the no-surrender order that Roosevelt had issued in February. I know that there is at least one memorandum from McNarney to Roosevelt.
What I'm researching is that genesis and scope of the no-surrender order. This, in turn, will place in context King's decision to violate his orders by surrendering the garrison.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
