Reliable information comes our way that Ron Benadero has been dismissed as on-island manager. For at least the last twenty years I've been visiting Corregidor, Ron has made everyone welcome - and his knowledge of the island (and the needs of its visitors) has been exceptional. I cannot conceive of there being anyone available with a more comprehensive knowledge of the island's physical characteristics being available full time on the island. Certainly not anyone with a more welcoming manner. I don't think this bodes well for the future. Image by karl Welteke

Good Bye Ron, I hope I will see you again! I am really sad to see him gone; I don’t see how the island will run as efficient as before. I considered him a friend because I dealt with him every time during my 55 visits to the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. He was always responsive in a friendly and efficient way. He always gave us clear information as where we could go and what we could not do. Most the former Fort Mills facilities are now covered with forest or scrub but he could direct us to any location requested. Who will replace that knowledge? I compared him to a Top Rate First Sergeant like in an Army Infantry company; he was a Good Leader who really made the organization tick. Farewell, Smooth Seas, Friend, wherever you are!!!!!!!!! He gave us excellent help to board El Fraile Island, the Concrete Battleship. That is a difficult task with an outrigger boat. He did an excellent job to get this large and international research group of the Costal Defense Study Group organization safely on board and back!

I never had the pleasure of meeting Ron on my 2 trips to The Rock, but knew of him from the many posts here where he showed up to assist everyone he could. I felt like I knew him from seeing him so often on these pages. I am sad to think I will not be able to look him up and chat him up on my next sojourn. Perhaps if we ever get to have our big get-together there, we must have Ron as our master of ceremonies.

Za890. Mr. Ron Benadero (CFI employee) is taking care of visitors, 2018, April 7th. Za890. As I took pictures of the Tribute to All Filipino Heroes Commemoration, I spotted Mr. Benadero. I asked him what will happen to you now that the management of CFI has changed; he said: he did not know. One thing, I always appreciated about Ron, he had learned to speak the English language very good, and so there was never a misunderstanding problem. In one documentary video about Corregidor, he even spoke a few lines. As part of the Philippine Veterans Week April 5 to 11, 2018, on April 7, 2018 Tribute to all Filipino Heroes is observed on Corregidor Island in Manila Bay. The site of the Tribute is at the Filipino Heroes Memorial. I came on the Island to meet the Valor Tour group and friends and was not aware that this commemoration was observed every year. So I took advantage and joined the other visitors and participants
