If you are interested in this detailed report of the Japanese assault on Corregidor, sufficiently to study it, would you be so kind as to comment. Earlier this week, I had someone from a documentary film maker contact me asking for "permission." I responded, as is my habit, that I cannot give what I do not own. They also wanted me to provide them with clean copies (no watermark) of a series of images. I responded that Corregidor Historic Society is essentially for educational purposes, and that we don’t do commercial work except at commercial rates. Frankly, I’m a bit shot of commercial people wanting the world for nothing. I told them, ever so politely, to go buy the book, or seek out the original materials from the U.S. Army Casemate Museum at Ft. Munroe. Thanks go to John Duresky for providing the Report document.

EXO
Excellent reading but numerous questions arise.
Am I mistaken or was the primary attack unit an engineering unit? It seems odd that an engineering unit would spearhead the attack.
There was also mention as late as 2 May that a "powerful gun boat unit" was patrolling the area. Bulkeley's MTB 3 had departed for Mindanao on 12 March and did not return so I think they were kind of "padding their stats" there a bit.
Also mentioned was a boat that had sailed immediately after the attack began, heading for Manila under a white flag. Japanese fog of war, urban legend? Take your pick. With the Japanese having complete control of surrounding land , air and sea, it is difficult to believe any of these craft could have gone undetected and unmolested.
Where are you finding all of these great finds, EXO? And can you keep it up?

Assault on Corregidor, Japanese Report, #30 Image presentation in segments (Segment #1 Attack Sketches) Zf199. Japanese Report #30, the cover page, available in Corregidor.org. (earlier entry). This picture came from Japanese archives found by the authors’ team of the book: Relentless Hope: A True Story of War and Survival, by David L. Britt -------------------------------------- This is a detailed report of the Japanese Assault on Corregidor. Corregidor.org. posted the source, see the previous/above entry. The report (PDF file) posted in Corregidor.org. has 82 thumbnail page numbers. Like in every PDF file, thumbnail page numbers are provided on the left side column. Zf200. Thumbnail Page # 37 is an editor’s note from the U.S. military translators. It explains that the Japanese Unit which wrote this report was wiped out on Saipan, what unit it was and in what organization it fought during the Siege of Corregidor. This picture came from Japanese archives found by the authors’ team of the book: Relentless Hope: A True Story of War and Survival, by David L. Britt In the report, put together by the U.S military translators, are duplications, blank pages or other pages of little interest and I will not present them graphically here. Note from Karl: this report was generated by one unit and it is numbered #30, so, perhaps many other reports exist from other units. This great find was provided to Corregidor.org. by the authors team of the book: Relentless Hope: A True Story of War and Survival, by David L. Britt. In our Corregidor forum we have a page on this book and the authors, click here! corregidor.proboards.com/thread/2374/relentless-hope-true-story-survival----------------------------------------- At the end of the report are 5 graphs of the amphibious assault boat formation and the attack plans. I will start posting them first. They are very interesting to me because I was an assault boat coxswain on my first ship, the USS Belle Grove LSD-2 1960 to 1964. Zf201. The Japanese Amphibious Assault Plan to attack Corregidor, Fort Mills, on “D-Day” the 5th of May. The Japanese called it “X-Day”. The Japanese Amphibious Assault Plan to attack Corregidor, Fort Mills, on “D-Day+1” the 6th of May 1942. The Japanese called it “X-Day+1”. As history tells us, this assault was not necessary because General Wainwright surrendered Corregidor on this day. The Japanese 3rd Amphibious Combat Unit’s course of action at the mouth of Manila Bay on “D-Day+2” the 7th of May 1942 against Carabao (Fort Frank) and Fraile (Fort Drum) Islands. This picture came from Japanese archives found by the authors’ team of the book: Relentless Hope: A True Story of War and Survival, by David L. Britt Zf205. Japanese amphibious assault boat formation, very similar we organized our assault boat formation during my time in the Navy, the 1960.
