SHIFT HAPPENSHere's a question for anyone who wants to field it. (Let us not get political, this is an international forum after all.) Now that things are "changing" in the RP, how's the rumor mill dealing with those old suggestions that some of Corregidor's barrels (etcetera) be removed from the island and sent to other places? I recall that there were stories about a battery in the US might have benefited from a barrel. More recently, there were stories in the media there (and published on our forum here) about building a replica DRUM turret as a tourist feature in Manila. Is that likely to languish (as many proposals there do?) or push through? I do recall, (we all should remain aware of this) that Corregidor never belonged to CFI, and that their role was only a trustee management/Administrator. The ultimate authority, the guys with the veto power throughout all the years as I understand it, remains the Department of Defense. They, at least, have an understanding of tradition and heritage. I haven't been following the issue of the proposed Bataan-Cavite Bridge (and it's ability to deliver road traffic to Corregidor), surely the negative publicity of stressed countries falling into a debt trap with the Chinese Communist Party might keep some people at arms length. " The more things change, the more they are the same," is not an allowable reply! (Lets not use names, which only attract trolls.)

The latest scuttlebutt is there are rumors to move one of the 12-inch spare barrel(s) to the artificial white sands in Roxas Blvd (formerly Dewey Blvd) and place it there on display. The alarming thing I have learned is that it could be the spare barrel at Battery Hearn, which makes no sense why you need to drag that 12-inch barrel whose length is 35 feet and weighs approx 115,000lbs while there is a 12-inch spare tube (of Battery Cheney) that is sitting there at the back of MacArthur's cafe and is just a stone throw away from the docks.
Either way, I am not in favor of removing any gun barrels from the island and placed elsewhere.
