Today I found a dog tag in a tunnel in James Ravine. It reads: Daniel W. Crowley 11019779 USMC and a "C" for Catholic. Fortunately this gentleman was easy to find online after some quick searching, and I learned he has an incredible story. Sadly he passed in 2021 at the age of 99, but (update!) I was able to return the tag to his wife Kelley, who is still living in Connecticut. A reverse image to better read the tag reveals... Daniel Crowley and his wife Kelley with President Obama at a veteran's breakfast, date unknown.

Hounddog's post may be only three lines, but it is big news. There have been lots of dog tags found on Corregidor across the years, many of them which have defied tracing. But these are the days of the internet, and of databases searchable by the public. The most noteworthy dog-tag to date was recovered in February 2008 when Tom Aring located the tag of Matthew Musolino near the parapet of Btry. Wheeler. Musolino, of "E" Co., jumped 4th in his stick on the morning of 16 February 2945. It was a hard luck stick, as the first four to jump from the aircraft landed among the Japanese in Cheney Ravine. All four were killed. No one had any idea what had happened to Musolino, though, his body was not found. Musolino was listed KIA and his body was found by Graves Registration some several months after the 503d had departed Corregidor. Tom Aring was able to locate Musolino's next of kin, and presented the tag to his sister. For more about the Musolino Story see corregidor.proboards.com/thread/93/dog-tags-kia-on-corregidor. It's an extensive story, and much can be learned from it. But back to Hounddog's find. What makes it especially significant is that it is a USMC tag, and its owner survived to live a full life, eventually meeting the President! But I don't want to steal Hounddog's thunder, just whet your appetite for more. I do say, though, that the dogtag found Hounddog, Hounddog didn't find it.
