I'm wondering if this location is not on the South beach, west of the Dock, on the way to Breakwater Point. There are concrete positions like this in a ravine just above the beach. The beach in that area is covered with large rocks like those in the picture. Can't tell if that is a cliff behind it. There is so much light shining on it I have to think that the picture was taken from a clear area like the beach which would let that much light in. I have seen another like this on the road to Kindley Field just below Water Tank Hill, and just past the Philippine War Memorial. That one has a lot of light on it also as it's right above the road.

armyjunk; I do not recognize your photo but I do have one that I took that matches tomaring's description. quote: I have seen another like this on the road to Kindley Field just below Water Tank Hill, and just past the Philippine War Memorial. That one has a lot of light on it also as it's right above the road. How did you post a 175 KB photo here when it says a maximum size of 12.5 KB? I added this photo at: www.pbase.com/image/82179591At least you know this one is not what you are looking for. Good luck.

Tom's comments are pretty astute - about the rounded rocks suggesting the doorway is near to the beach, and about the clear light also suggestive of that conclusion.
I saw a ladder exit doorway (ie something very similar) when cutting between the rear of Battery Geary and Battery Crockett. I had a look inside, and it was full of rubble - like most of them. Nearby were a few dozen broken 7-Up bottles, indicating that there had been a 'party' times past. I don't know how to tell pre-war 7-Up bottles from post war ones. This is in the general area where the 'missing' Geary barrel fell to earth.
There's probably several of these ladder doorways around the island, given the standard designs that were built pre-war. I think there's a similar one on Way Hill. Even if you went back, it's likely that it wouldn't be the same as in the pic - the colors change so much, they never seem the same from year to year.
Concerning the size of the photograph, the picture was not posted as an attachment to the board, only the link to a site elsewhere where it is stored.

Fot2, your picture is a 155mm GPF shelter, my picture is a lot smaller, maybe 5 foot high. Sorry, I guess it needed a person in the picture to give it scale. I'm thinking the South Beach location might just be it.. Thanks for the input, it all helps....
