Below are two photos for your comments: Photo of Thomas Barnes (don't know his rank) but was said to have been taken during the drop at Corregidor. Notice the close call he had. Photo said to be of Maj General Marquat and Col. Jones observing artillery fire againts positions. Notice that the M107 SPM. Does anyone know when this photo was taken or when did Maj. General Marquat visit the island? Thanks in advance,

Hi Batterboy
It has taken me a while to check information about the possible date of the second of your photographs. The location is the western edge of the Topside Parade Ground with the guns facing east. Mile Long Barracks is in the background partially obscured by smoke.
The only mention of a massed artillery barrage from Topside was that supporting the attack east of Malinta Hill. This was on 24th February 1945. Eleven 75mm howitzers fired 216 rounds at predetermined ranges from Camp Point to Monkey Point.
The two M7 105mm Gun Motor Carriage are not mentioned in any reports, I have found, as having taken part in the action that day. However, they were present on the Parade Ground and may have contributed to the barrage given their alignment is the same as the 75mm howitzers.

Hi Batteryboy I found there is a short segment of movie footage of the 75mm howitzers in action probably on 24th February 1945. The footage can be viewed at and lasts for several seconds. The 75mm howitzers are filmed from the left rear and are in action. The segment is at 1:40 minutes from the start (approximately). Regards mapmaster

Amazing photos Batteryboy.
A headache for Mr. Barnes I'm sure.
The film clip must be watched repeatedly to catch all it's significance. Thanks to you both for the History lesson.
