The NAVY TUNNEL thread is getting a bit long, so I will post this photo in a fresh one and hope we can keep the spirited discussion going. One of the (numerous) issues which the MAP GANG has been facing is whether the various laterals of the tunnels we've been auditing have rails. I felt this would be good to keep the discussion going. Any ideas where this was taken?

EXO...it would appear that the two american POWs are lugging a double deck bunk, so could this be one of the hospital laterals? also, could that be a medical cabinet sitting between the rails and the concrete wall? granted, there were bunks just for sleeping all thru the tunnel complex, and if there were no rails in the medical facilities than i am way off base. just a shot in the dark, but the width of this particular tunnel indicates that it is a lateral and not one of the main thoroughfares.

Maybe Battery Hearn or one of the other batteries with tunnels equipped with rails for delivery of necessities and Ammunition's.

hey guys....all that office gear, desks/cabinets, etc make me lean to some administrative area, but your guesstimates are probably better than mine. stuff such as this is what makes this board so enjoyable to me. one thing for sure, the office furniture in this photograph isnt what one would find in the pentagon. the desk being used by macarthur and sutherland that is revealed in the famous photo of genl mac's tunnel enclave looks like something one would find at a flea market.

This is one of the laterals. It cant be any of the batteries as they did not store such materials that would hinder movement of ammo and powder plus rails in battery tunnels were in the center. This one favors a side.
I am having a discussion with ExO on this in relation to the Navy and QM tunnels and some of them had rails for pushing stores and material by hand usinf a railed trolley or platform.

Maybe it is a Navy tunnel. I remember seeing a picture Al McGrew had showing a ramp of sorts going down from the South Shore Road to the area around the South Dock for moving torpedoes from the tunnel to the dock to load submarines. Moving a torpedo, or other supplies, on a rail cart could explain the rails.
