Hello all, I`ve been visiting Corregidor since 97 and i`m visiting again this Feb3rd. But for a change i`d like to visit Pinatabo for a couple of days hiking at my leisure, can anyone recommend a hotel as a base nearby and perhaps a local guide . I`ve seen tour company`s on the web who take you up from Manila on day trips but i`m not interested in charging about and spending 6 odd hours in a mini bus. I`d rather watch paint dry and set fire to the 4000 odd peso`s they`d charge me!
I`d also like to climb the high mountains you can see from Corregidor over in Bataan, again i guess i need a guide and some info before i get there.
My ex who is a filipino will be with me so language should not be a problem, i`m also fit enough to do the hike`s
Failing all that, i guess i will spend the time rooting around Corregidor, hmmm got to get some of the new maps........which one`s are the best to carry with you?
Regards Gary

Hi Gary,
Here is a start for you.
1 – Mount Pinatubo I went there once for the day hike and this company provided good service. They also have overnight packages but I am not familiar with them. They are located in the closest town to the volcano.
Their information is: Pull Travel Destination Corporation (PDC) Location: Sta Juliana PDC Office Number: 045-439-0031 (Cell# 09099513103)
2 – Bataan mountains There is no one better to contact here than Karl Welteke. Send him a PM. He has hiked all over that province.
3 – Corregidor map The single best map I would recommend is the 1936 digital map (in .PDF format). I think it is available at Corregidor.org in the PX.

Hey Rhino....Since you will be prowling the southern areas of Bataan, I wonder if you might check out the former locations of US Army Hospitals #1 and #2. I am curious as to whether there is any trace of them left after all these years. If you will be in contact with Karl he might direct you to the exact spots. Just another little question that has lurked in the darker recesses of my ancient mind. Cheers and have a great trip. Postscript....If memory serves, Hospital #1 was called "Little Baguio" after it was relocated farther south once it's original location became untenable due to Japanese advances on the MLR.
