Dear Colleagues, I'm trying to establish to which artillery unit assigned to the 50 the 75mm SPMs sent to Luzon in 1941. Only one website I found an indication that: (...) on 14 October 1941, a total of fifty (50) M3 Gun Motor Carriages, otherwise known as Self-propelled Mounts or SPMs (Half-tracks mounted with US M1897A 75-mm field gun) arrived in the Philippines and were assigned to the 11th Provisional Artillery Brigade, USAFFE. (...). www.lightarmordivision.net.ph/1starmor.htmThis is the only information which I found by searching the Internet and publications about the subject. Unfortunately I do not know if this is true? Can anyone confirm this, or have more information about this topic? About the combat use of 192th and 194th Light Tanks Battalions is written a lot. But about the SPMs used by action durning Luzon campaign - nothing. Maybe someone knows what name was given the unit eqippet by this 50 SPMs? This name and I can not identify. I should be grateful for any information or suggestions. Regards, jabu

Just daw your post just now. Here is a quick reply:
The 50 T12s were originally organized to three (3) SPM artillery battalions with 4 batteries each. Each Battery was suppose to be equipped with 4 T-12s plus a compliment of M2 half tracks as ammo and personnel carrier. (total of 16 SPMs per battalion). They were organized into the ff:
1) 1st Battalion - LtCol. Joseph Ganahl
2) 2nd Battalion - LtCol David S. Babcock
3) 3rd Battalion - LtCol Lindsey
The three SPM battalions mentined above formed part of the Provisional Field Artllery of the Philippine Scouts.
The SPMs were later attached to the Provisional Tank Group were assigned by the USAFFE wherever they were needed. During the withdrawal on both North Luzon and South Luzon forces, they were utilized depending on the situation. Sometimes a battery (4 SPms) were transferred and even up to an entire Battalion in some areas.
All SPMs served in Luzon and none were transferred to the Visayas and Mindanao areas.
Let me know what other info you need on them and will try to find out for you.
Cheers, B-boy

To add:
A number of captured T-12s were then refurbished by the Japanese and were assigned to the 2nd Armored Division. A number of them were knocked out by US Tanks or by bombing raids in the battles around Northern Luzon during the liberation of 45. Some of the M2 Half Tracks were used to tow Japanese Heavy artillery like the 150mm gun and howitzers.
