I was assigned to the 503RD on Negros Island while it was under Col Jones command. When the war ended I was send to the 11TH airborne in Japan. My army records were destroyed in a fire. I would appreciate it if you can help me get a copy of my being in the the 503rd during the war. I do not know the company I was in Perhaps there are the daily records that are usually kept. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Mr. Epifano,
Thanks for contacting us. I would love to help you out, but I need a few questions answered so I know exactly who I'm looking for.
Were you born in 1926 in New Jersey? with 1 year of High School? Relatives (maybe brothers) Albert, James and Anthony?
Army Serial number 42106521 around Dec 45 Your Army Serial Number before that is currently unknown.
Do you have any photos of yourself or buddies while with the 503rd?
Any paper work at all that might give us some clues?
Thanks Dan

Thank you for your reply
I was born in Newark,n.j. on 6/4/1926.I have 12 years of schooling.(3 yrs were at Essex County boys vocational & tech high school) I had 4 brothers. The 3 you mentioned .They all served in the army & Anthony served in Europe during ww2. All 3 are gone now but I have a younger brother also that served in Korea.(Alfred)
I have no photos to show.
However a fight that put 2 soldiers at odds might be a good clue I remember them both as Tech sergeants that had a fierce fight. If my memory is correct one was named O'Brien & the other was Herman (don't know if that was his 1st or second name). They both used to make sure I took my atabrine tablets. That's the only clue I can remember.
I also went to one of the reunions of the 503 about 1980 in Tennesse (grand ole opry). Very enjoyable but met only 1 person I recognized. His name was Stan Leshinski.
I greatly appreciate your tring to help me.Thank you so much.

There was a T-5 William O'Brien in Second Battalion HQ & HQ Co. There are also a few more O'Brien's so lets start here.
Look through this list and see if any of these names ring a bell. If they do, this was more than likely the group of guys you served with.

Mr. Epifano,
Although many World War Two Army personnel records were destroyed in the 1973 fire at the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, the area of the building that kept Morning Reports and Unit Rosters was untouched. Those records are intact. If no one is able to help you at this website, try e-mailing or calling NPRC. They have researchers for hire.

None of these names ring a bell-but I am grateful to you for trying.
I thought the fight between S/Sgt O'Brien & S/Sgt Herman might have been the same company I was in. Since it didn't I think I will not search for that info but I appreciate your help.
THANK YOU....LOUIS EPIFANO

Dear Mr. Epifano: My name is Robert Leshinski. My father was Stan Leshinski who passed away earlier this month on June 8, 2011. I noticed that was 4 days after your birthday. You are the first person that I have heard about who served with my father in the 503rd. Whatever you remember about your unit and where you were would be greatly appreciated. My father, despite the fact he was a career military man, never talked much about the war.

Nice to see the list of HQ2nd, I see at least a couple of names missing from that list (one is my father) so wondered what dates/timeframe the list includes?

The above list appears to have been taken from the roster published in “The Return to Corregidor” by Harold Templeman. The list was furnished by The 503rd R.C.T. Headquarters. It contains the names of those who participated in the Corregidor operation. The entire roster can be found on the Heritage Bn. Website. corregidor.org/heritage_battalion/templeman/roster.htm
When did you father enter service with 503rd?

Thank you, that may explain it, as I know my father and the George Kojima were supposed to be on that jump but the boat was "broken down" in New Guinea. :} Of course they were upset, but my thinking is that maybe it was a good thing <smile> don't say that to a soldier!
