Hi Darth,
Thanks for the photos. Feel free to add any more you want. By the way, the John T. Pilot web site has more UST war time photos if you are interested.

Hi Phantom, Here is another view of Baluarte De San Diego for you. 1934 map. The following photo was taken from the Manila Hotel (bottom left on the map) looking towards Baluarte De San Diego (the closest #5 on the map). (John T. Pilot photo) Crop of the above photo. (John T. Pilot photo)

Hey Darth...I think I may be on to something that might prove that the photos you posted are not of the 1945 courtyard. Take a look at the width of the windows that are in the back portion of the courtyard. The 1945 photo shows a more narrow window on the left hand corner of the wall. Your photos show the narrow windows appearing on the right hand corner of the wall. Betcha if you could check the other courtyard you would see that it is probably the one that is shown in the 1945 photo. I wouldn't bet my life on my theory, but I studied the old shot and the new ones that you posted and finally found something (the narrow windows) that I could match up, or in this case, something that didn't match. Whatcha think? You are absolutely correct the Old Photo is the North Yard. I could not remember why I did not took photo of the North Yard I think I dont have access to that part from upstairs at the time. I want to go back and took some pictures again but since I am no longer a student of that University that may be tricky to get to the Top floors. Another Thing About UST they already remove the Colayco park which I think is Wrong.

Hey Darth...Regarding the gaining of access to the upper floors of the old Alma Mater, just tell the powers that be that you are a loyal Alum, a large benefactor, donor, etc, doing photo research for a historical project, and if that doesn't gain admittance, just say that "Fots sent me". I am sure that would do the trick. Cheers.

Hi Darth,
I do not know why the Spanish chose certain names for the different Bastions. Perhaps someone here can help you with that.
As for getting access to top floors of the North Yard, I can only offer a few suggestions.
First, print the old photo even if just on plain paper.
Second, go there and ask permission. They can see exactly what you are looking for and know that you are more serious about this than others. (The historical project is a good idea too).
Third, If not many people are around or only security, sometimes of few Pesos towards their San Miguel fund does the trick. Both #2 and #3 results in success at times when only asking does not.
Fourth, tell them okla sent you.
Good luck.

^^Hi Fots Haha I love that Idea
I will probably show them my faded University I.D. lolz anyways I should have attended the Graduation Recital last week that I was invited in.they always hold recitals inside the Main Building Museum. The thought of getting stuck in traffic at Quiapo made me lazy. But offcourse there will be a nextime. I just feel odd that Place is somewhat sentimental to me while I think My Great Grand Father probably hated that place when he was interned there during WW2
cheers Guys

Hi fots! Re: Bayview Hotel, IIRC the current one does not stand on the same plot of land where the notorious WW2 original version stood. I forgot where exactly the original stood, ISTR somewhere further south. We should get together again.

Hi tomasctt,
I did a search on the net for some details on this hotel. Other than saying it has existed for more than 75 years and was rebuilt after the war, I did not find any exact location information for it. For now we have conflicting information on the pre-war location of this hotel. If I ever find out for sure, I will let you know.
I prefer to keep everything here as accurate as possible so I appreciate your comments. Salamat.
P.S. there is a lot more WWII history to visit that I have posted about so far.

Yep, Bayview was rebuilt - but rebuilt on a different lot, away from the original one. I forgot my source though.... Perhaps batteryboy can provide info on it. As for WW2 history, oh you should go up north to the Cordilleras. Relatively lots of signs/monuments of the liberation (e.g. "XXX Division was here" type of monuments - not exact words, of course). I dunno if they've found Yamashita's exact HQ camp at Mt Napaluan though.... And there is a 50/50 chance I might go mountain biking along the Villa Verde trail www.pacificwrecks.com/provinces/philippines_villa_verde_trail.html sometime this year. RUMINT has it there is still remnants of a Sherman tank there, or even some Japanese fortifications.
