Caption on back says this was taken on 10 Jan 1942 at "Camp Mudhole" on Bataan. Anyone have any idea where that was? Attachments:

Hey dmether....I am sure you have viewed the full photo. It is included in the book, "Death March", by Donald Knox. It appears to be a formation before "mess call". A few of the troops have what appear to be mess kits, etc I also wonder if this is a small unit of the Philippine Army since several of the men shown in the complete photograph are obviously Filipino troops. I don't think it is a Scout unit since the Corporal (Squad leader???) is American. I have always understood that Scout NCOs were Filipino and the Officers were American. This, of course, is an uneducated guess on my part since I am certainly no authority on the organization of the new 1942 Philippine Army, but weren't some American NCOs "volunteered" for duty with the PA as advisors, etc. Battery Boy, where are you? Again, I am intrigued by what the fate of the American Corporal might have been. Every time I get a good look at the face of any of these doomed men in a photo, it lingers with me for a time. I can't help but wonder if this poor, unfortunate guy has any inkling of what lurks in his immediate future. Cheers.
