Hey zman....Thanks for posting. Fort Drum has always had a fascination for me due to it's unique "Battleship" design, etc. I have also always wondered if those "Dixie Cup" hats were Govt Issue or those guys just wore them since they, for all practical purposes, were aboard ship so to speak. That Badminton Court seemed to be rather elusive since it appeared on the "ship's" deck in the one photo, disappeared in photo #16 and was back in place in pic #17. Thanks a bunch for posting these shots. Fort Drum will always hold a very special place in the annals of the CAC. Too bad that it is crumbling into rubble much more rapidly than one would expect. Cheers.

Thank you zman. Richard King here (smokinguntoo75). My dad, Capt. Ben King was the only surviving officer of Ft. Drum after hostilities ceased. He retired as a Lt. Col to Austin Texas and due to heart problems that began at Cabanatuan. He passed away in 1966 while I was in Vietnam. smokinguntoo75

Hey All....I have never been able to determine, during the prewar years, whether Fort Drum was manned by a rotating, skeleton crew, coming over from Fort Mills, or whether there was a set, tour of duty, etc. If the latter, those guys should have been getting "sea duty" pay, since that is about what it amounted to. lol.

Fascinating photos! The Cavite coast looks exactly the same today. Those placid waters are not always so. Well I know when Fireball and I made our return to Bataan in the afternoon with 6 foot waves coming at the bow of our rather diminutive Banca. During Typhoon season the waves hit high and hard on the old concrete walls and must have given E Battery the impression that they were indeed at sea. They are even wearing their blue "Daisy May" hats in the Navy fashion.
