Trebor, thank you for your comments and please don't hesitate to offer any suggestions. That's what this forum is all about and we appreciate your input here. Please also see Reply #75 on the Malinta Hill thread link below and the next several replies that follow it. I, too, thought at first that the location of the pom-pom was on the saddle, but thanks to fots' investigation and photos I've come to believe it was at the crest of the "little hill" just north (right) of the 75mm gun shelter labeled as "Shelter 1" on the photo. Let us know what you think. Look forward to hearing from you again and keep on diggin.... Chad corregidor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=threads&action=display&thread=532&page=4

Sorry Chad, I didn't mean for it to sound like it was "in" the saddle, I was trying to express that in the video you could clearly see the pom pom AND you could see the "gun platform in the saddle" - a reference point. In the video you can see the pom pom on a knoll in the background, I'm assuming that is the "little hill" you are referring to. As noted by fots2, there are some other videos showing pictures inside Malinta tunnel and a really neat video that shows beach defenses of Corregidor. All in all, great videos, though the individual trying to sell the videos is asking for a steep price for each of them.

Trebor, the "beach defenses" you refer to, and seen in the first portion of the video, I believe is a covered trench system stretching along the South Shore Road that runs along the west side of Malinta Hill. I don't believe it was a beach defense system, but was a trench system where the soldiers lived.
As an aside, many years ago while I was visiting Al McGrew in San Diego, I was introduced to Lou Duncan who was a marine sergeant on Corregidor in '42. He told me that he was an armorer and had been in charge of the construction of the gun position for both the 8" gun at RJ-43 and for the 1.1" pom pom on Malinta Hill.
As a further aside, the video showing the pom-pom on top of the hill shows a metal roof in the background that I believe covered the shaft at the rear of the SL#8 tunnel.

Hello trebor, I see now that I misunderstood you about the pom-pom being in the saddle. Sorry about that. BTW, with a little practice I've been able to get some reasonable still photos from the reels on Critical Past. They aren't too pricey about that and sometimes it's the only way to get a pic of anything. Welcome to the forum and keep up the good work ...Chad Oozlefinch, do you recall what Mr. Duncan said about the pom-pom or the construction of its position? Thanks, Chad

Chad, I'm sorry, but I don't recall anything, if he said anything at all. Unfortunately, it was 20+ years ago. This was at a time when there weren't many interested in our "hobby" and those that were weren't conncected communication-wise like we are today.

Re: the end of my reply #5, I brought up that the video appeared to show the sheet metal roof over the shaft at the rear of SL#8. This video is taken from the pom-pom looking south. In the Malinta Hill thread reply#225 Chad's post-war photo has an arrow pointing to the spot where the pom-pom was purportedly located. If I'm correct about the metal roof, I believe the location of the pom-pom would be further north, or right in the photo. I only bring this up because I know Fots will looking for the bolt circle of the pom-pom and this might give him a better location to explore. And, if I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

Oozlefinch, the Japanese video showing the sheet metal roof and shacks is looking north from the pom-pom gun, not south. By studying the photos in Replies #223 and #225 on the Malinta Hill thread link below, it can be seen that the barrels of the overturned pom-pom gun are pointing somewhat to the west. The video shows the barrels pointing to the west also. Thus the gun's position is south of the metal roof and the SL 8 air shaft. corregidor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=threads&action=display&thread=532&page=12
