Sirs and Madams,
Im' sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong thread, Mods may move this to its proper place.
I'm glad to find this forum for the wealth of historical facts being shared around and also hopeful to find a piece or some pieces of connection to my uncle's ordeal in Bataan during the 2nd world war. Your assistance will be deeply appreciated.
According to my father, his older brother's name is Arsenio Sy, a policeman in a small city of Negros Occidental (San Carlos City), Philippines. He answered the emergency call sometime in 1941 to be trained and stand for the defense of the Philippines. He mentioned about the Philippine Scout and he added that my uncle was in the march and reached the POW camp in Capas but died eventually with dysentery in the following year. It was relayed to him and to their mother (my grandma) by one of his companion soldier who also served, survived and came back home in the same city. He recalled that they burned all my uncle's things with association to his police job including spare bullets. He said our grandma was afraid that they might be targeted as guerillas due to those stuffs when the occupiers arrived. Then not much more details was shared by my father except he wish to go to Manila and look for his brother's grave, if there's one. It was long time ago when he told me that story, I was in my teens and he was not able to do his wish since. I cannot ask more now since my father's thoughts are fading but I kept a digital copy of a special picture I found in his old album. I saw my uncle for the first time, his facial feature is very similar to mine and I recalled once when one of my auntie (my father's older sister) told me that I look like my soldier uncle but sadly I did not bother to dig more at that comment when she's still alive. I'm sorry for the narration but I wish to ask your help in identifying my uncle's unit through the picture below. I thought that he belongs to the integrated Philippine Constabulary regiments to the Philippine Army at that time but I don't know for sure. I emailed the Philippine Scouts site with the same picture sometime in 2009(?), I asked if there's an existing roster that I can start with but I was not successful. Please find...
Truly,
Jon
