68th Anniversary Recapturing Corregidor
The Corregidor Foundation Inc. (CFI) and the Filipino-American Memorial Endowment Inc (FAME) remembered this important Anniversary. At Topside they displayed a banner for all the tourists to see and to remind the Public.
More important CFI has decided to fly the 48 Star Flag on the old Spanish Flag Pole where General MacArthur personally ordered the flag raised on the 2nd March 1945. The Commemoration started on the 16th Feb. because that is the anniversary of the assault on the island by the Allied troops. Paratroopers on this day raised the 48 Star Flag under fire, on a power pole near by.
Some of us Corregidor friends have visited Corregidor annually on this anniversary and Paul Whitman always brought a 48 Star Flag and with permission and the help of CFI have we raised the flag on the 16th Feb. in the past to commemorate the assault of the Rock Force. The flag flying this year is also a 48 Star Flag and was donated by the MacArthur Memorial in Norfolk. Pictures are below.
The banner was displayed appropriately near the Rock Force Memorial. We were pleasantly surprised by the banner and that it will be displayed from the 16th Feb. to the 2nd of March this year. And it is even nicer that the 48Star Flag will flown also during this commemorating period.

Our 3rd visitor, John M., fots2, and all of us at the only remaining defeated Japanese gun in the field. This was on the afternoon of the 16th Feb. 2013 because John M. only could come with the 3rd Sun Cruises ferry today.
