About 4 or so years ago I did have a look at the boats in the company of one of the police from the (marine) detachment who have a station on the creek (almost next to the boats). At that time they were up for sale, but that's about as much as I remember - my guide didn't know their history & while he said they were under the police care this may or may not be true. Clearly though they never sold as while beautiful they look past economic re-use.

VFW POST 11447 SUBIC BAY BEACH BASH 2016-02-07 The 24th Annual Beach Bash of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 11447-Subic Bay was held at the Mango’s Beach Bar in Barrio Barretto, between the 5th and 7th Feb 2016. The last 3 years, we held the annual Beach Bash at the Driftwood Beach (in Barrio Barretto) and especially last year, 2015, it was not very profitable and that is why the venue was changed. The parade this year was not very big. But it seems we were able to manage one more Beach Bash. I made two albums: 1st album-52 images including the parade: s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Philippines/No%202%20Phil%20Events%20Group%20Albums/2016%20SB%20OC%20BB%20ZAM%20Album%20Group/Beach%20Bash%202016-02-06%20Saturday%20and%20the%20Parade?sort=9&page=1or tinyurl.com/jgxezc62nd album, Sunday; I did not stick around for the beauty contest, so the images are from the afternoon-46 images: s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Philippines/No%202%20Phil%20Events%20Group%20Albums/2016%20SB%20OC%20BB%20ZAM%20Album%20Group/Beach%20Bash%202016-02-07%20Sunday?sort=9&page=1or tinyurl.com/z5xuuw2Here are 4 sample images: W623 image from the 24th Annual Beach Bash of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 11447-Subic Bay which was held at the Mango’s Beach Bar in Barrio Barretto, between the 5th and 7th Feb 2016. Expected to arrive today (April 1) at the Port of Subic are the landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD-49) and dry cargo ship USNS Matthew Perry (T-AKE-9). Arriving tomorrow (April 2) are supply ship USNS Sacagawea (T-AKE-2), dry cargo ship USNS Maj. Stephen W. Pless (T-AK-3007), oiler USNS Walter S. Diehl (T-AO-193). W752 this is an interesting and the present look of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ), the former US Subic Bay Naval Base. This is a file photo from the new management, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA). I uploaded it at a small size; you should be able to zoom in or download a larger size from the above URL! Also arriving tomorrow is the Arleigh Burke-Class destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DGG-62). These US Navy ships will be in Subic Bay as logistics support to the on-going Balikatan exercises. Meanwhile, a Japanese submarine and two vessels will be arriving this Sunday in the Freeport for a goodwill visit to the Philippines. This will be the first time in 15 years that a Japanese submarine visits the country. In a statement, Capt. Lued Lincuna, spokesman for the Philippine Navy, said that the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) is sending its Destroyer Escort Division 15 and Training Submarine Division 1 to Subic Bay for a goodwill visit and port call. Composed of two JMSDF vessels, namely, JS Ariake (DD-109) and JS Setogiri (DD-156), the Destroyer Escort Division 15 is headed by Capt. Haruhiko Morisita. On the other hand, the JMSDF submarine JS Oyashio (SS-511) is led by Capt. Hiroaki Yoshino. The three JMSDF sea craft are expected to arrive at the Alava Pier in Subic Bay at around 9 a.m. They will be staying in Subic Bay until April 6. The visit of JMSDF assets came amid the tension in the disputed East and South China Seas. Japan is engaged in a dispute with China over Senkaku Island in East China Sea. On the other hand, the Philippines is tangled in a tense dispute with Beijing over the South China Sea or the West Philippine Sea. (RBB, AMD/MPD-SBMA) PHOTO: Port of Subic (file photo)

NAVAL MAGAZINE WALK 2008 This walk is from the former Cubi Point Naval Air Station to the Morong Gate in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone (the former Subic Bay Naval Base). It was on the 22nd Oct. 1908. This walk was basically in the former Naval Magazine area. I entered several side valley, roads and trails. I established this album with 84 images and this is the URL: s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/SBFZ%20Ex%20Naval%20Base%20Subic%20Bay/SBFZ%202008/Cubi-Morong%20Gate%202008-10-22?sort=9&page=1Here are 5 sample images W756 this map from EZ Maps shows the starting and ending point of my hike today, the 22nd Oct. 2008 W757 this sign is located at the entrance to the mangrove park next to the former Naval Magazine Gate. W758 the Triboa River Water Pump Station. W759 this is Marcello Solomon (not sure about the 1st name), he lives here in one of the magazine maintenance huts and works as a guide for the SBFZ Tourist Department and was a guide to the USMC patrols in the Magazine area. He also told me how much better the pay was under the US management. W760 this is the Morong Gate park, inside the gate, this image shows you here how the rainforest looks like with the underbrush cleared. The Applicant makoy motivated me to make this entry. He recently opened this thread called:” former Subic Bay NAS back roads”. corregidor.proboards.com/thread/1918/subic-bay-nas-back-roadsW761 here is one of his pictures, it is from him: makoy is his forum name. This picture reminds me of the roads to Hill 394.

Roger (Rogelio) Frias, a Navy friend on the Naval Base Subic Bay Recently a diver friend asked: What has happened to Roger? Roger was our houseboy in the Ship Repair Facility (SRF) Subic Dive Locker, maybe for 30 years or more. Hundreds of Navy Divers knew him when they passed thru or by the locker. Roger was considered a friend by all of us. He always did most reliable and great work, taking care of us and our spaces. By coincident I had become a neighbor to his property. I was there when he died in 2011; I participated at his funeral and shot these pictures or they were given to me by his family. I established this album with 57 images about Roger (Rogelio) Frias. s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Philippines/No%202%20Phil%20Events%20Group%20Albums/2011%20OC%20Bo%20SB%20Zam%20etc/Roger-SRF%20Diver%20Friend%202011-09-01?sort=9&page=1Here are 9 sample images: W777 this is our friend Roger and a Battle Wagon at Subic Bay Naval Base, during the Viet Nam War. This image came from Roger’s family. W778 a 1980 picture of the SRF Subic Bay Diving Locker, all the way to the right is Roger. This picture came from my friend Steve Lawson. W779 by Rogers casket an old teenage photo of Roger was placed. W780 Roger and his oldest son Rudy at his wedding; Rudy is a commercial diver in Singapore and had to get leave to come here. This image came from Roger’s family. W781 this picture of Roger is from the 22nd Feb. 2011 on his 77th Birthday. W782 this is the 1998 SRF Diving Locker team with Roger. Roger is the 3rd man from the left and I am the fifth; we two are side by side. W783 the walk to the Barretto Church for the last blessings; the hearse is in front of my house to its left. W784 I decided to put on my Blue and Gold shirt, my boots and a replacement looking UDT Short as a symbolic gesture. My Marine cover is missing and the socks are not exactly Marine green but at age 69 I don’t look to different then on that 1989 picture. That was our daily working uniform and with most of it on, we jumped in the water like that. W775 “Good Bye, Roger until we meet again”. He is buried in a new cemetery near the large Maria Stature and Shrine between Subic and Castillejos Towns.
