Hello, my father Frank Munoz was a part of the 503d battalion and I am having trouble finding a roster of what company he was apart. He was injured in Noremfoor and another location which I think was in the Philippines. He doesn’t remember what company. My goal is to find someone in his company that may remember him. His injury to his head is now seriously affecting his health and the VA lost his medical records in a fire. So they are dragging their feet because he cannot prove without a doubt that he was injured in the war. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Damian Munoz

Dear Damian, Your Dad is mentioned several times in the website, and his wounding is recorded; He was in Headquarters Battalion and assigned at some point with "E" Company. The site mentions his head wound; so you tell the anal retentive bureaucrats of the VA that you have proof he was wounded during the war!! If they fail to accept it, tell them that you will be seeing your congressman, the VFW, and the local newspapers – because you will no longer tolerate institutional disrespect to a genuine WWII veteran. Here's what Don Abbott has written: Incidentally, the MG may have been fired by Pfc. Munoz who was assigned to ''E'' Company from Second Battalion HQ. This was the man who was badly wounded in the shoulder while with our company on Noemfoor. Not long after the incident with the Japanese plane Munoz was, once again, badly wounded, this time in the head by falling AAA shrapnel.
Don Abbott was the Executive Officer of “E” Company, so he knew your father personally. Don, unfortunately, died a few years back. His article has been published for several years, and by more than one source to boot. Another Trooper that I know had problems with the VA, and managed to use the website as a proof of his record of his service. The site is a public document which is subject of peer review, and our Board ensures that there are no fraudulent claims of service, or fictional accounts. Do you have any photo of your dad in uniform? Regards, EXO

This is incredible news!!!
Yes, I have some pictures. I have two on this computer but not in uniform. I have one class photo of him graduating basic training. I will send it in the next day or two.
My dad is still getting around but he just cant seem to be on his feet for more that a 10 or 20 min at at time. As i mentioned before he gets, dizzy, nauseated, and a feeling of instability. The head injury, as we are finding, caused a compression injury to his cervical spine. The deterioration is not normal even for a man his age. His neurologists, before he knew of his war injury, determined that deterioration like this could only have been caused by some sort of trauma.
My dad's profession after the war and attending UCLA, and a one year contract with the Fresno Cardinals, (St Louis's, minor league team) was a high school teacher and coach. He worked at Westminster High School in California for 30 years before he retired.
Yes, he told me about his injuries, when I asked him a couple of years ago and passed it on to the VA.
His shoulder injury happened in the jungle and he was behind a tree turning to wave others forward when his exposed shoulder was hit. The bullet entered at his shoulder blade and exited his shoulder muscle, and took about 25% of the tissue. We have no claim with the VA about the shoulder.
His injury to his head happened when they were being attacked while guarding an airfield and shortly after he jumped in to a fox hole with two other men he was hit. He was not sure what it was. Grenade or ordinance from a plane.
Thank you very much!
I will print out this information and take it go my Dad's rep at the Purple Heart organization. They have helped start my Dad's claim with the VA. George Roy, who is the rep, will be happy to hear about this.
Best Regards, Damian Munoz
