Hello all,
I am Harvey R. Huskey's great-niece. My name is Mandy and my Grandmother (her name was Mandy too) was his sister.
Thank you all for this wonderful website about the 503rd and Corregidor.
Originally, he was MIA and then after the war he was KIA. I am planning on obtaining his IDPF. I have all the information I need, is there a way to request this information online? Or do I have to mail it in?
Harvey R. Huskey Pfc. Cannoneer Btry A 462nd PFA Bn. Corregidor MIA (later KIA) February 16, 1945 Buried Highland Cemetery Allen County Iola, Kansas
Here are a few things I know about my Uncle Harv regarding what happened on Corregidor, February 16, 1945 and afterward. I never meet him (of course) but my Grandma talked about him all the time.
"He was afraid of nothin'." Is what my Grandma would always say.
He became a paratrooper only because it was more money. He sent his money to his poor parents. "He wouldn't even buy cigarettes," is what my Grandma would say.
When the family was first told Harvey was MIA, it was a woman that came and told them. (I don't know if that has any significance, but it's a detail my Grandma would always recall when telling the story.)
There were conflicting stories they heard from guys that jumped that were with him that day. (I'm sure it was chaos.) One was that he dropped a piece of his gun and when he landed he went into the jungle to retrieve it, and never was seen again. The other version was that he was shot and killed in the air.
I will update when I receive his IDPF.
My Uncle Harvey was very important to my Grandma. It's great to know there is a place that remembers those that were MIA or KIA on Corregidor.
Thank you all. -Mandy

Hello and welcome aboard.
It's nice to here from family members.
You have to make a formal request.
See below, this letter should get you his file. Be prepared for a long wait (6 months - Year). Keep us posted. We would love to have a reference copy for Heritage Battalion Website. Once the letter is sent in, you should get a response in 4-6 weeks telling you they received your request.
Do you have any pictures of Harvey, that you could share?
Todd

Todd,
Thank you. I am going to get it in the mail today.
My mom has a few pictures, as well as some letters he wrote to my Grandma before he went overseas. I think the letters are from California. I will get copies of them over the Thanksgiving holiday.
