I am looking for information about my grandfather, Robert Bonewitz, who was in “Sv Co 503rd Prcht Inf Regt”. I believe you may be able to point me in the direction of some pictures…………..?
From what I can gather, his date of entry in active service was Jan 6, 1943 – discharge Jan 3, 1946.
I am very interested in uncovering information about his service and would be delighted to see an old picture. I miss my grandfather very much.
Any assistance you can provide would be most appreciated.
Sincere regards and much thanks for your service……….

Pvt. Bonewitz is at the far left of the middle row, in this photograph of the 503d troopers who enlisted from Indiana. The photo was taken on Mindoro shortly after their return from Corregidor. You will find that, by following the history of the 503d through the war, you will have followed your father’s experiences almost as closely as any diary. The book Combat Over Corregidor is the best source of photographs of individual troopers. The book, which gives the best human picture of the Corregidor experience, is available through the site’s PX page. exo
