Charles Audet, 2nd Mate of Corregidor's mineplanter, USAMP Harrison, died today, May 2, 2008, in Sacramento, CA, at age 91. He arrived on Corregidor in May 1941. He helped evacuate thousands of soliders to Corregidor the night Bataan fell and navigated when the MP dumped the Philippine Treasury's silver into Manila Bay. He was captured on Ft. Drum and was a POW for 3 1/2 yrs. He was awarded the Silver Star and 2 Bronze Stars. More info on Mr. Audet and the mineplanter will be on the Corregidor site soon. Only one MP crew member remains, Norman Proulx, Chief Quartermaster from 1938-41.
