VIETNAM NEWSLETTER Almost every month for several years, Lew "Smitty" Smith has been sending me a copy of the newsletter of the 2d Bn 503d of the 173d Airborne. I have been converting his pdf file into a flip book version each month and hosting these in an obscure corner of my Corregidor-503d PRCT website. It's a significant body of work that Smitty has created, so let me commend it to you. Smitty has been culling articles from our website and including them as a part of the newsletter, so hardly an issue passes without a Corregidor/503d PRCT related article. This month's issue has 5 pages of Corregidor Coordination by Lt. Col E. M. Postlethwait who commanded the 34th Infantry on Corregidor, and received the DSC for his actions there. Later in his career, he joined the Airborne and commanded the 503d. I am very proud to make this contribution to the 503d Lineage.

Glad to see something about my war. X455. At the Hoi An River, 1967, about 20 km inland, the Marines used a Navy LCM-8 as a ferry boat. The river was shallow and the screws, shaft and bearings needed attention frequently. About every 2 weeks or so a team from the Da Nang Diving Barge went down there and took care of matters. We usually always wore greens; I don’t remember why I wore dungarees that day. Maybe I wanted the VC to know that the Navy was also part of the team.

Actually posting a "Photo of the Month" each month is clearly going to take me years, so I will advance the schedule, though not the title. Here's the cover from No. 60, the April-May 2015 issue. The digital library of these is available on our site's 2/503d VIETNAM NEWSLETTER Feature.

Earlier this month while in Florida, I stopped by VFW Post 10148 in Cocoa Beach Florida.
They have a "Heroes" Photo Wall there. On the wall I saw a picture of Lew "Smitty" Smith, circa 66/67 and a few others from the 2/503.
The picture below are some of the emblems they have on the wall.

Each month or two I prepare the 2/503d Vietnam Newsletter for hosting as a flipping book and a pdf file, and as I was doing it today I noticed that I was overwriting a file that I created in July 2012. Dang, time gets away from us! The hosting page is at: corregidor.org/VN2-503/newsletter/issue_index.htm
