I wasn't sure which forum to post this in so if it needs to be relocated please do so.
This is a few stories that my father-in-law that he told me. His name was Isaac B Piercy, Sgt,6852926,USA (ORD). Here is what I remember:
One was on Bataan where someone is his group shot a monkey for food but the rest of the monkeys got very excited so they left the dead one where it fell. The next day they could see where the other monkeys had trampled down the grass around the dead monkey.
Another was where they were scouting a village on Bataan and one of the patrol bumped into a Japanese soldier while going around a corner and was so surprise he didn't think to shoot and instead beat the heck out of him with his loaded pistol. They all thought it was funny that the guy forgot he had a loaded pistol.
When the force on Bataan surrendered he and a friend built a raft and paddled out to Corregidor.
The last was on Corregidor where when the Japanese first attack the island the US forces slid by hand artillery shells off a cliff that exploded when striking the beach and doing considerable damage to the Japanese forces that landed.
He spent the war as a POW in the Philippines and later was transported to Japan in the Hell Ship Noto Maru. He spent his time in Japan at Hiroshima POW Camp #4 Mukaishima.
