Thanks for posting this, Patty. It looks like the whole town turned out to welcome John Kovach home.
John, as you probably know, was one of the fourteen men buried in Cabanatuan Grave 717 and I've been blessed to get to know several of their families. Anyone who thinks we should leave these men buried as Unknowns should talk to John Kovach's 90 and 94 year old Sisters and see how much it means to them to finally receive this closure. I don't think it has as much to do with where they are buried as just the finality of knowing that they didn't just fall off the face of the earth. The Department of Defense has known all along where these men were buried, they just "neglected" to share the information with their families.
John Kovach was a member of Co C, 192nd Tank Bn. A member of Co. A, Lloyd Lobdell, was also buried in Grave 717. He has now been identified and will be returned to his family near Janesville, WI.
