Hi,
Just returned from Corregidor and found a red brick intact with the word “CALCO” machine ingraved in. This was found between battery Grubbs and Battery Smith along with a large number of piece of dish ware (QMC) and broken glass. Any ideas what it means?

Hi Gunboy,
A quick Google search showed that there was a company in Los Angeles called Calco (California Clay Products), between 1923 and 1932. They manufactured clay tiles, so clay bricks could have been made by them too. The owner was one Rufus Keeler.
Regards,
Fortman

I had only found a company in Nebraska that was 30 years old, so it does not make much sense. Also found another brick that was half broken. With the words “km” on it. See pictures.

Hi, Based on this 1941 map, could anyone tell me what this building (#59 I believe) is? I cannot seem to find this anywhere. It is between Battery Smith and Battery Hearn.

The KM piece is part of something marked in Kilometers? The QMC pottery shard would of course be Quartermaster Corps, dating it from post 1912. Previous to this time such items were marked QMD for Quartermaster Department.

Hello Olivier, I doubt that was part of a KM Stone. Here is an image of what the real thing looks like in the Philippines. Shot on a historical road, in a historical place and was shot no less then on Bataan Day. KM Stone (Marker) 144 on the Pilar to Bagac Road on Bataan, 9th April 2018. The Pilar-Bagac is being widened and for this project the old KM Stones are not moved but are being replaced and are moved further outwards. I’m sure the old stone will be discarded. In all my frequent travel with a car on Luzon Island, I find these KM Stones helpful. They tell you one’s driving progress and give the distance to the next town. In this picture the next town is Bagac and it is 7 KM to go. Only now do I notice there seems to a marked Rock marker further out. Maybe it is historical, I got to stop there next time and have a look. KM 144 means, it is that distance from Luneta Park in Manila where KM 0 is located.

Was really surprised to find such a concentration of chinaware and glassware in the same area. A number of the items seem to be medical in nature. Very impressed to have found both QMD and QMC inscribed China ware. If anyone can advise where these would be best turned over to, I would be happy to oblige. Also found a piece of glassware relating to the German dispensary in Manila. A few other random but nonetheless interesting items. Enjoy, Olivier
