Hi! May name is Bev Saylor, I'm USN retired, and a CDSG member. I have been interested in World War II (especially the early days of the war in the Pacific) since I was a kid. I'm trying to find information on the tactical organization of the harbor defenses. The Moore Report posted on this site indicates that would have been included in Exhibit D, but it doesn't appear that it has been uploaded. A local university library has a copy of The Wainwright Papers, and I think the Report is included in Volume II. However, given the current situation, they are closed. Can anyone provide me the information, or a idea where it can be found? Thanks!

Hi Bev,
You will find a lot of info on this website. You can also try and obtain a copy of The Fall of the Philippines, by Louis Morton.
Regards,
Fortman

Fortman, Thanks for the rapid response! I've got a copy of Morton, and I can't find what I'm looking for there. I know the Seaward Artillery Command was divided into four groups: Group 1 (Major Caliber North Channel), Group 2 (Major Caliber South Channel), Group 3 (Medium Caliber South Channel) and Group 4 (Medium Caliber North Channel). What I can't find is which Batteries were assigned to each Group. You can make a guess based upon the location & orientation of the Battery, but breakdown of the actual assignment would be a "gift from on high". That's what Exhibit D of the Moore Report appears to offer, if I can get my eyes on a copy of it. I'm hopeful that on a group as focused on the topic, someone will have a complete copy of eh report & will be able to share the data...

Hello Bev, This is odd. I have all four volumes of The Wainwright Papers (my copies are edited by Celedonio Ancheta and published in the early 1980s by New Day in Quezon City), and cannot find Exhibit D listed anywhere! Volume Two does seem like the logical place, but the Exhibits listed are C, E, F, G, H, I AND K. No Exhibit D or J. Not sure if this helps, but Exhibit C lists a Table of Armaments and Coastal Artillery Assignments, link below: corregidor.org/chs_battery1/ordnance.htmBest, Chad

Chad, Thanks for checking. I'm guessing that when Ancheta added the Moore Report to the Wainwright Papers he didn't include all the Exhibits.
