Hello! Thank you for taking the time to look at my post. I was asked to contribute to a book about WWII memories being put together by a lady in my writing club. Anyway, My grandmother, Mary L. Waid was the baby sister of Captain Arthur D. Waid who was a poisoner of war in Corregidor. The story goes, no one in the family knew what happened to him until his picture was published in Life magazine with him holding the surrender flag. Based on that image, his father, my great grandfather, was able to retrieve his body and have him interred at Fort Rosecrans in San Diego. Somewhere, I have the letter Great Grandpa wrote. I just thought it would add to my story if I knew a little bit more about Arthur. I'm googling his name like crazy, but I'm just not finding anything or interest other than an Order of Battle. If anyone has a suggestion, I'd love to hear it. Thank you again for your time, Jennifer

Jennifer, The place to start is with his Individual Deceased Personnel File (IDPF). I don't currently have much information on him, but if you contact the Army's Past Conflicts Repatriations Branch at this link: www.hrc.army.mil/content/The%20Past%20Conflict%20Repatriations%20Branch%20is%20an%20organization%20under%20the%20Army%20Casualty%20and%20Mortuary%20Affairs%20Operations%20Division%20(CMAOD)they will send a free copy to family members. You'll probably have some questions after you receive it and I'm sure someone on this forum can help you understand what is in the file. (edit to add) All I can tell you is that his service number was O-318258. He was in the Coast Artillery Branch assigned to HQ Btry 60th CAC. He died on 7/5/42 in Bilibid Prison in Manila. There's an indication he may have passed through Cabanatuan Camp #3 before Bilibid. Bilibid was often a way station when POWs were being shipped to Japan via hellship, but we can't tell much from the slim record available. Are you any relation to Waid, Charlie M., Pvt 19 049 058, 31st Inf, who died in the Cabanatuan POW Camp? His next of kin was his Mother, Emma Sowell/Waid/Densmore, 561 Brooks Ave., Venice, Calif and his sister, Jeanne Tarver/Paige. If Charlie Waid is a member of your family, I have a LOT more information for you. Best, John
