I'll be traveling around Manila, Quezon, Baguio, then south to Palawan...
other then keeping the windows rolled-up and doors locked, any other precautions.
not so much personal safety, but camera equipment
Also, has anyone made the 5-6 hr drive to Baguio from outside Manila?
thx.... great site!

Avoid any public display of wealth or affluence. Leave the expensive wristwatch, mobile phone, wallet etc at home, and get a crappy plastic one. Best not to go for long drives, or any drives at all, unless you are experienced with Manila traffic, or not the driver. Only if your car is parked will any incident not automatically be your fault. If you are driving, carry a photocopy of your licence, should any cop want to confiscate it. (The cops are the biggest crooks you're likely to meet. Not just the locals, either - the PNP do NOTHING about known corruption in their midst, except promote it towards the top, and call it "initiative.") Take a first class bus instead - they allow you to see and enjoy the scenery, people and countryside, because driving most definitely does not. Put camera equipment in a tatty old bag that's neither stylish or "cool". Times were when we all carried lots of big SLR stuff around, but that's hardly necessary any more. Consistently the best images coming out of Corregidor are taken with a small pocket camera. Have a look at corregidor.org/slideshows_picasa/slideshow_05_moffitt.htmWhen the camera companies can work out either to have a haze filter on the front of a lens, or work out some digital magic to cut the smoke from the scenery, we'll all be happy. None of these advices means "don't enjoy yourself."

Very good advice by snowbird, on all counts.
Roads to Baguio at this time are in bad shape due to the monsoon season. They had reopened Kennon road due to landslides on the other main route up to Baguio, maybe it's repaired and open again? Kennon was the original road built in the early 20th century by the Americans to their new Colonial Hill Station, Baguio. I think it's the most scenic way up but it has been plagued by it's own landslides. The bus is the only way to go.
If you are traveling in Quezon Province be on guard at all times, N.P.A. etc. busy there these days.
Do you have a trusted guide or local to take you around ? Be aware of your surrounding's and those around you at all times.
Bottled water, Coke, or preferably San Miguel at all times, nothing with ice in it in the Provinces.
Have a good, safe trip...........
