Sorry guys, but I'm having a crisis here.
Who cares (GAF) about the Forum, any more?
Is the Forum important, relevant? Does it matter? is it an afterthought? Where did we lose its relevance? Do we need it?
Karl, my old mate, this is not directed at you. You have been with us throughout. You often get a bit off topic, but I love your views of the landscape, and what you've been up to. You too, Beirutvet, you've been a kind supporter a super long time. Oozlefinch, you don't say much, but I appreciate you dropping in from time to time. John Eakin,it's great that you keep a watching eye on us from time to time, and your sharp eye on all those irrelevant porno purveyors is much appreciated.
But what of the rest of you?
Have we become an afterthought?

Just to be clear - I'm not looking for the porn purveyors, I'm just trying to keep our house clean. <G>
Seriously, and sadly, I don't think that this forum has become an afterthought, rather our little community is getting smaller. Many of our dear friends have passed on and I don't think the next generation is as interested in history.
RIP, Okla and pdh.

Rest assured, I'm lurking in the background, reading all the Posts and gradually working my way through all the old topics which are immensely interesting and valuable. This is a great resource. I still have plans for some new posts, but have had to switch to paid work for a bit! That and I need to work out how I can add photos because I'm basically a Luddite.
Hang in there!

I know that the photobucket fiasco didn't help, either. Along with those who have passed such as Okla and pdh54, I miss phantom's posts, too.
I'll hopefully get re-energized and bring some more meat to the table here before long. Certain legal matters surrounding pdh54's demise are concluding, it appears that I've beaten the cancer, and I would also like to visit The Rock again, soon, if the P.I. can get its act together-

I love the Forum and try to post more often since getting back to the Philippines (and The Rock) in 2022. I feel bad that I'm late to the party though and have missed out on so much dialogue that took place in the 20-odd years that I was away. I was the biggest WWII Philippines and Corregidor history nerd you ever met in the 1990's and loved visiting and exploring the island with my family and friends during that time. I also read a TON of books about Corregidor, in fact, probably too many, as little stories and facts started to get jumbled in my head and now they come out wrong sometimes, lol. But time went by and I got distracted by life and career stuff and the Philippines kinda went to the back burner. But I'm back now! As John Eakin stated, it's likely that the community has gotten smaller, coupled with the sad fact that today's short attention span-TikTok generation values history so little it seems. But I believe this Forum still holds immense value and should continue on! I was researching the whole 'Treasure of Corregidor' story again recently, trying to get my facts straight about it, and it's incredible how many articles out there cite Corregidor.org and the proboards as the source for their information! There's stuff on this site that is more valuable than silver Peso coins! The collected insight and experience and stories and photographs and memories are stored here like a treasure chest in of itself. Now, again, it's sad that this chest isn't opened as often as it once was, but we gotta believe that its value holds true, and someday, future generations will be going to it for education and research. Okay bye for now, -Hounddog (Kevin)

Hounddog Yeah, everything he just said, couldn't have said it better. I am constantly reading books on the subject and have been lax in getting the reviews out. I pledge to do better and get a back log of them out soon.

Here's another thought.. Back in the 1990s and early 2000s video wasn't king yet in terms of how people injest information. Once social media and YouTube rose to prominence, and now (shudder) TikTok, it kinda crushed the 'ol internet forum concept. If you look on YouTube today, there's actually quite a few seemingly successful channels on there that include WWII and the Philippines in their covered topics, and some even focus directly on these topics. That being said, perhaps it's time to help translate the vast information on this forum and website into more videos, thereby making it more palatable to today's visually oriented generation. Some have already begun this effort (I'm thinking of Randy's excellent 'Pacific War Stories" channel, for example.) Maybe more of us can take up the challenge? I've had an idea for a new YouTube channel myself, but as I work in Film and Television and am quite the perfectionist, it's tough for me to pull the trigger on it. I want it to be well done. Maybe some day. Meanwhile, us old timers (ha!) can continue to cherish and utilize this priceless forum, and keep it going strong. -Hounddog
