My mother always told me that Warren Clear was the last American off Corregidor before the Japanese landed. I met him when I was a child but to me at the time he was just an old man. Anyway, can anybody verify or debunk this family legend?

Sorry it took over 3 years for the response. I think your answer is found @ www.pacificwar.org.au/Philippines/Macescapes.htmlOn 4 February 1942, the submarine Trout arrived at Corregidor to transfer Philippine Treasury gold to a safe place and evacuate Lieutenant Colonel Warren J. Clear, an intelligence officer. So, while he played a large part in the drama, he was not the last off.
