Hi
I was wondering someone might be able to provide me with some guidance on how to further my research.
I am trying to locate any details on a gentleman by the name of Royce Ramsay / Ramsey.
Some of our family members recall him being a paratrooper with the 503rd, however he may have been a member of one of the attachments to the 503rd.
Would love to know more about him, as our family lost contact with him after the battle at Markham Valley.
I believe I may have his army serial number, however am not 100% certain that the serial number I have found relates to the right person.
Thanks for your time.
Leigh

Leigh,
I'm trying to search for some info on Ramsey, but I think we will need a little more info to help you out. His serial number would be of great help. His middle name or inital, what part of the country he was from.
I found this with a quick search:
Royce F. Ramsey S/N 36355994 Enlisted in 1942 From Cook County IL.
This may or may not be the same Ramsey...again we need more info. The Honor Roll on this site usally has all the members of the 503rd that fell and Ramsey is not on the list. That could mean a few things, he was not part of the 503rd, not KIA or just got overlooked, there are a number of reasons...lots of things happen over 65 years.
The other groups attached with the 503rd were 462nd PFABn and C. Company 161st Engineers
Hope this helps. Let us know what other info you come up with so we can better help you and your family.
Thanks Dan

I see that there is a Staff Sgt. R. D. Ramsey who is recorded in the Nadzab/Markham Valley Roster as being Platoon Sgt of the Mortar Platoon in Headquarters Bn. There's no Ramsay in this roster.
Being relatively senior, one may expect Ramsey might have been in the army pre-war, and obtained some seniority. A S/N might verify this. Searches of S/N's are available on the net.
If he was relatively senior, he may have been posted back to the US between New Guinea and Mindoro. There is no Ramsey in Templeman's list of Corregidor participants.

Dan and Buster,
Thanks so much for your prompt replies!!
So far the only serial number that I have been able to locate has been that of Royce F. Ramsey, as mentioned by Dan.
The details of the enlistment of Royce F. Ramsey (such as his age and when he enlisted) seem to match quite well with what we remember, as we are certain he was born approx 1915.
The location of Staff Sgt R. D. Ramsey is a new development for me, however after a quick, short search, I have not been able to locate a serial number and am therefore uncertain of his first name.
I know this doesn't really provide any further info, however I will try to obtain more info from other relatives.
Thanks again, any input is greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Leigh
