Hello, My name is Kara Moore Kittle. My grandfather Ralph Edward Moore was in Corrigedor and Bataan along with his brother Jospeh Warren Moore, they were both from West Viginia.
They both survived, but my grandfather was one who suffered the PTSD and was not helped for it. He was tortured to the extent that the Japanese soldiers who were over him tied him up by his thumbs and jammed needles into his chest. He lived until 1962, one of the needles that could not be extracted worked it's way into his heart. He died in the VA Hospital in Roanoke and received medals posthumously.
I have found his liberation record on NARA. He was in the 60th AA CAC. He was a POW in PW Camp #1 Cabanatuan 1-2-3 Nueva Province Luzon Philippines. I also have his service record number but other than that I have very little else. He was listed as PFC but my aunt has his actual record that he was ranked up to Cpl. when he was released from active duty.
I don't know about his brother's record, but he died about 5 years ago in Louisiana.
My grandfather is buried in Bluewell, WV. I would like to know how to find out which medals he did receive. I have a picture of him and my grandmother after their wedding and he is wearing his army uniform. Is there someone here I can forward this to?

Hi Last year I researched and attained medals of my Philippine Scout father-in-law. He passed away a number of years ago. His original medals were not retained by him and (thus) were not available for handing down to his daughter. The replacement medals are now framed with his photograph. Luckily, I still have the information links, used for my research, which I have attached below. For information on all US medals go to: www.tioh.hqda.pentagon.mil/Awards/Ribbons/OrderofPrecedence.htm Importantly, this site gives details of the conditions under which each medal is awarded. Medals are displayed in an "Order of Precedence" - facing top left to bottom right. The medals detailed on this site are listed in the correct order. The only other help I can give is, subject to the date of service, theater of service, POW or not and nature of active combat, it could be possible for 1942 Bataan and Corregidor US personnel to be awarded the Prisoner of War Medal, American Defense Medal, Asiatic - Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and Philippine Defense Medal. The above list does not include any bravery or service medals that may have been awarded. Using the above information, the photograph of your grandfather in uniform, with your grandmother, may hold some clues to help identify his medals and confirm which medals were awarded. Other information links that may help are: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner_of_War_Medalen.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Defense_Service_Medalen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asiatic-Pacific_Campaign_Medalen.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_Victory_Medalen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippine_Defense_Medal www.priorservice.com/mifusime.htmlRegards mapmaster
