I thought you folks might be interested in seeing some new aerial photos of Corregidor Island. I was fortunate to be able to wait for a clear day with only a little haze in the distance. This time of the year the island is still quite green. Many places, even roads, are really difficult to see from the air but I am sure lots will be familiar too.
The angle of the sun with respect to the camera lens makes a huge difference in the photo quality I got. Unfortunately I could not control that much in the almost one hour we flew near the island. I just took lots of photos from different angles and hoped for the best. I’ll add more descriptive labels soon. Finally, I added a few photos of Caballo Island and Mariveles.
Seasons greetings.
John

The perspective your pictures give to the overall island setup is excellent! It is difficult to get the same perspective while on the island due to all the vegetation and the twisting and turning of all the roads, as they follow what the landscape allows. Will review your shots before my next trip, thanks.

Great photos of the Rock. Can't believe how the jungle growth has taken over the island. I don't remember seeing anything growing when we were there--only rocks and rubble. Bill [ Bill McKenna was a member of the 33th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division which took Malinta Hill. Of his 40 man platoon, all but six were killed or wounded. He contributed the article "Pacific Journal" at corregidor.org/rock_force/taromen/mckenna.html - Moderator]

Hey Fots2
Saw this old post and could not connect to the photos, I think they are moved.
Would love to see them, are they available somewhere else?
thanks

I think that maybe that pbase went out of hosting for forums, and that the original aerial images have never been reloaded for a number of reasons. We had a slide show somewhere and it suffered a similar fate. Partly because of issues with hosting companies, I started to host a number of the images myself, and set up a feature known as FIELD NOTES to display the best of the REDISCOVERING CORREGIDOR posts, most of these being originally created by John Moffitt. I think John's aerial pics were so great, they tended to show up elsewhere - without credit to John, or worse, thieves claiming credit. All in all, John has created the finest series of rediscovering Corregidor articles, which our friend Okla calls "Fots Tours." I haven't done any FIELD NOTES for a few years, because I fell behind - John could publish his superlative tours faster than I could "note" them. His "Fots Tours" are sprinkled throughout the forum and provide vicarious pleasures for those suffering PCD (Pre-Corregidor Disease, or Post-Corregidor Disease, depending on your sliding scale of addiction.) No one can match his consistent skill with a small digital camera.

Thanks Registrar
OK, I have seen a smattering of Fots's tours, so I am glad they are still around, I will look for them elsewhere.
And you are spot on with your diagnosis of PCD. I have it but am hoping they NEVER come up with a cure. I look forward to a lifetime of fighting this disease.

Registrar is correct, those photos are no longer hosted. I thought I deleted all links to them but occasionally one still shows up. Thanks for pointing it out. I will repost the aerial photos someday but do not expect them in the near future.
