There is a request to put a plaque at Battery James. According to Capt Robert Garcia (retired) he is the son of the late 1st Lt. Amadeo S. Garcia, PN, attached to Battery B of the 91st CAC, PS, officer in charge of Battery James. Any information would be appreciated, asa well suggestions for wording of the plaque. Recently the battery has been cleared. (Previously the battery was so covered in overgrowth that it was almost unviewable.)

There is a notation that Btry B of the 91st manned Batteries Rock Point (2-155mm guns), James (4-3" guns) commanded by 1Lt. Amadeo S. Garcia, 1st CA (PA), and Hanna (2-3" guns) commanded by Capt. Albert E. Durie. One 155mm gun from Rock Point later relocated as Roving Battery Ek, commanded by 1Lt. Karl L. Ek, Rock Pt. No. 1 gun Commander. corregidor.org/btty_histories/control/order_battle_91.htmFurther information indicates that though Lt. Garcia did NOT himself command James, he was in command of a detachment of Filipino troops who were designated to man the guns there, and to train them. James did not feature in the battle, and may not have fired a shot in anger prior to being disabled.

Hi ExO,
I disagree. Battery James went into action against Japanese field artillery positions emplaced along the beaches at Mariveles, Bataan and was in action up to April 15 with Lt. Garcia and his men manning the four (4) 3-inch RF guns. A Japanese counter battery fire hit the tunnel behind the battery collapsing and suffocating 42 men inside. By April 20, the battery was already in a considerable state of damage and was abandoned as three of the four guns were deemed irreparable.
FWIW,
