Partial letter to a Lt. Hopkins June 7th 1945 from a service lady named Fran.
Last Sunday we went on a very interesting trip- boat trip to Corregidor. The trip was about 3 hours across and we were allowed 2 hours to either swim or go exploring. The majority of us went exploring. Found plenty of our very dead Sons of the Nipponese, in fact we went as far as to have our pictures taken along with one of them. How we stood the odor is more than I know but somewhere we did. From that spot we were taken by truck to the top of the mountain and there found all the interesting battle spots- the entrance of the cave where Gen. Wainwright surrendered with his staff, and the underground caves where the nurses took care of the wounded- remains of the barracks etc- all in all, a sobering effect was the result of seeing all of this- by that I don’t mean there was any drinking in the party- strictly sober and sedate in all respects. We got back to Manila about 5 which ended a very interesting day for us all. I got terribly sunburned but today it is getting toned down to a brown.
The letter continues but nothing more about Corregidor. Lt. Hopkins is not part of the 503rd or its affiliates from the Corregidor Jump. This is just a random letter I have a copy of. I thought this odd account needed to be posted.
