Nice shot. Where were you standing when you took this?

I found another panorama, and put it on my Facebook page, so I could link it here. I think Facebook reduces the file size, which tends to make it less sharp.

Here's another image from my old hard disk, of the road that leads up to the west entrance of Malinta Tunnel. I stuck the insert there, not for an exact Then/Now comparison, but just to establish how much is hidden under Corregidor's lush, green overgrowth. There is a tunnel entrance there, TARE I think, but it has been covered up by rockfall and overgrowth. I knew this because few years previously, about 2001 or 2002, the CFI were trying to clear into the tunnel. They didn't have the right equipment (they were using a small CAT), and every time the dozer would clear away the entrance, broken rock would come sliding down the hill. The dozer driver was in genuine danger, so the attempt to open the tunnel any further was abandoned. Pity they didn't have an excavator. Nowadays, excavators have been seen on the island, but only temporarily, but I'd bet that no one running the place has any idea where to uncover TARE. It would be a very expensive job, and perhaps of marginal value given that the other tunnels are so much easier to uncover. And besides, to what point would it be, because - regrettably - the new tourist model for Corregidor pays little heed to such things. I took the image in or about 2009 to ascertain whether or not the weeds which were taking over the landscape at the time, were the dreaded "kudzu". I never got an botanical answer to that. I do think it was, but I'm not a botanist. Besides, perhaps it was the oppressive weather in the Philippines which resulted in much of it dying back during the long, hot, dry summer. If not the weather, the next best enemy of kudzu is, in fact, a herd of goats. In the US a herd of goats is less likely to be diminished by peckish rustlers, and I only ever saw a few goats on Corregidor at any one time. In the US, they herd the goats and make sure there is no food available for them other than kudzu.
