Hello Corregidor friends.
Here are 36 images from our visit to Corregidor Island on 13th to 16th Aug 2009; all images have titles and descriptions:

As usual I wrote a short dairy which follows here, it has an URL of our visit to Fort Drum during this visit:
Corregidor Dairy 13th to 16th Aug 2009 with AJM and PFW
On the 12th Aug Wednesday got a text from PFW (Paul Whitman) “Let’s go, AJM (John Moffitt) is going by ferry tomorrow“! I told him I only can go Thursday afternoon, the 13th.
PFW came up at noon by bus and we were off. At Cabcaben Villa Carmen boat crews were ready and we arrived about 3 pm on Corregidor. The North Channel was fairly calm with only very light SW winds. We just checked into the Corregidor Inn and spend the rest of the day talking. PFW and I share rooms at 1500 Peso total. AJM already explored around Malinta Hill and joined us later.
We decided that evening to go to Fort Drum, Fraile Island if the weather was good. Next morning the sea was calm and we ordered a boat from Villa Carmen at Cabcaben for 3000 Peso. PFW didn’t want to go and stayed behind.
At our departure we were made, unexpectedly, to jump thru a bureaucratic hoop. When the boat captain checked in with the Coast Guard he was told “use the paper procedure” . He hadn’t expected it neither.
The ’Hotel Activity Director’ had to fill out a waver form, get it signed by the ‘Sun Cruises on the Island Director’ then by one of us and list all the participants, then the boat captain had to sign it and it was delivered to the Coast Guard. They decided to send someone along with a gun.
I think this was all about one of the Coast Guard personal wanting to go along to take pictures. Next day we started to go to Fort Frank, Carabao Island and no Coasty came along.
The actual visit to Fort Drum, Fraile Island I will describe by pictures and descriptions only. Here is the URL:

The boat went around the west end of Corregidor going to Ft. Drum and returned coming around Hooker Point and passing by Caballo Island. The sea conditions were perfect.
In the afternoon we had arranged to see the WWII weapons found on Corregidor in storage with CFI in the old Power House.
I walked up Engineering Ravine which I hadn’t done before and also to check out the ex Aviary. The other fellows did other things.
In the evening we arranged a boat from one of the Corregidor Islanders to take us to Fort Frank, Carabao Island the next day. After hard bargaining the owner agreed to a 3000 peso price tag for the trip.
Going thru the same paper drill which on my previous many visits to the other islands never were required, we started off. The wind came from the NW, that was unusual for this time in the year, later it became a little choppy.
But we didn’t have to worry about a rough landing on the island, the boat broke down. It happened about a mile short of Fort Frank. We all had cell phones and communications was not a problem. In due time a rescue boat came and towed us in. Out we went via Hooker Point, towed in we went around the west coast of Corregidor. The out going tide and the NW wind had drifted us towards the west.
We donated 500 Peso to the rescue crew to show our appreciation for their professional performance.
This event and a lot of beer the evening before made me decide to call it a day by taking a nap. The other fellows carried out their agendas.
Sunday morning we enjoyed our 3rd traditional breakfast (this visit) on that beautiful hotel open restaurant patio. I then took the 8am boat back to Cabcaben and drove home with my car.
It was again an enjoyable visit and the weather was great- it is not rainy or stormy every day during the rainy season.
Sun Cruises is running the ferries only from Thursday to Sunday during the Off Season but it seemed they had large groups visiting this week and had even two boats running.
