www.gmanews.tv/story/172963/us-world-war-ii-tank-dredged-from-manila-bayUS World War II tank dredged from Manila Bay09/23/2009 | 05:34 PM MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine coast guard says the wreckage of a US tank has been dredged from Manila Bay's muddy seafloor more than 60 years after the end of World War II. Spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Armand Balilo said Wednesday the M4A1 Sherman tank was accidentally discovered Saturday stuck in mud 15 to 20 feet (4.5 to 6 meters) underwater by a dredging company near the mouth of Pasig River. Balilo says there appears to be no human remains inside the tank. It was discovered without its turret and tracks. He says a Japanese 105 mm cannon was recovered nearby in July. Manila was the scene of heavy fighting between US and Japanese forces during the liberation of the Philippines in 1945, and war-era arms and ammunition have been found in the city. - AP

Was this Sherman, minus its turret and tracks, along with the Japanese 105 cannon, on their way to Japan as scrap, having been loaded on a barge on the Pasig River?

The Japanese cannon found last July was not a 105mm but a Japanese Navy Type 10 120mm Dual Purpose gun. I saw the pic as well.
If you notice the Sherman, the drive sprocket and the assembly of the gear housing is gone as well. Either this was scrapped or damaged beyond repair.
There were a lot of ordinance dropped or "accidentaly" dropped in Manila bay. There is even a rumor of crated P-80 jets in the area as well!

Hi there Check out the ABS-CBN News Website at www.abs-cbnnews.com/. There is a photograph under IMAGES on the right of the home page. The photo shows Philippines Army personnel from the Explosives and Ordnance Disposal Unit with a World War II 75mm gun washed out of the riverbank of Bosoboso River in Sitio Old Boso-boso, San Jose, Antipolo City. Apparently, the find included ammunition. Regards willum
