I admit, I assumed that Corregidor is a National Park.
So I was researching an article about what National Park status requires for the ecology of Corregidor, but couldn’t find any confirmation of its National Park status. Sure there are lots of Tourism pages which say it is, but just because a tourism page calls an area a National Park doesn’t make it so. Neither, unfortunately, does the Wikipedia listing of national parks of the Philippines, which actually does not refer to Corregidor at all, settle the issue. Wikipedia is a guide, not an authority.
Now, we all know it’s difficult to prove a negative, so where is it announced that Corregidor has been created or declared as a National Park?
Does anyone know?

Hi EXO
Likewise, I can find no reference to Corregidor being a National Park. The CFI published a booklet in 1991 titled Corregidor - Island of Valor, Peace and International Understanding. The booklet explained the history of Corregidor; and it's present and future plans for development.
The booklet contains a section titled "Present and Future", by Ferdinand J. Bonsol which, outlined the five year Manosa development plan. Ferdinand J. Bonsol wrote: "Francisco Manosa & Partners, architects, designers and planners, was commissioner by the Department of Tourism in 1987 to transform the island into what it really should be - a historical park and tourist destination". This is one of the only references to Park that I have found.
The "Welcome" page of the booklet was completed by Secretary Rafael M. Alunan III and contains: "The concept of developing Corregidor into two areas witnessed the molding of the island into a memorial and tourist zone, thus, maintaining a socially viable balance of recreation and historical reminiscence. The complete development of Corregidor, therefore, echoes the the goals of the Department in its programmed tourism advancement".
With the delineation of the island into two parts, one social and the other historic, is probably what has lead to a lack of historic recognition of areas other than Middleside and Topside.

EXO, I also find references on the internet to Corregidor Island being a National Park but none of them were from official government sites. Who should know better than the Philippines Government. The web site of Philippines National Parks ( www.nationalparks.ph/ ) lists a total of only four parks: Rizal Park, Paco Park, Pook Ni Maria Makiling Park and Mabini Shrine. Next try the Philippines Department of Tourism ( www.wowphilippines.com.ph/ ). It mentions the Palawan Subterranean River National Park but I cannot find a complete park list. Doing a search for Corregidor results in zero hits. This time the Philippines Tourism Authority (http://www.philtourism.com/ ). Wala. Another web site named Tourism Philippines that looks professional but is not government: tourism-philippines.com/ It does mention Corregidor and has a review. No mention of it as a national park. Have a look at the “History of Corregidor” on this 2009 updated site. tourism-philippines.com/corregidor-island/ It has more holes than a block of cheese. (i.e. Manuel Quezon and General MacArthur both fled for Australia from there etc etc etc ) Finally, the official web site of the Government of the Philippines: www.gov.ph/ A search for “Corregidor” turns up numerous instances of Gloria’s press releases. I can’t even find a list of national parks. The information must be around somewhere. I give up.
