Welcome
Membership of this Bulletin Board is free however, members are asked to be courteous to one another. To become a member, there are a few simple steps to complete. Then you will be able post replies, start new threads and add photographs to you posts.
So, to become a member, click Register on the menu bar below the Corregidor Historic Society and 503d Logos. You are required to submit some details about yourself, a valid email address and you will need to Agree to the PROBOARDS TERMS OF SERVICE. Once this is complete, click Create Account. There may be a delay until one of the staff members approves your account (all staff members are GMT +8 hours). You will receive an email confirming your membership account is approved.
If you want to post a photograph, you will need to have it scanned. I think most libraries can help out with this. Once scanned, you can host it on a website like Photobucket photobucket.com/ There are many other hosting services available; my choice is not a recommendation – do an internet search and have a look for a hosting site that suits your needs. Using Photobucket as an example, go to that site and click the JOIN NOW button. Membership is free and not much more than an email address, login name and password in needed. Remember, hosting and sharing photos does allow other to access your photographs, if you share your file folder/s.
Once logged on the Photobucket you will be able to set up a file folder to keep photos in, you can import direct from your computer. This is best done at large size 640 x 480 pixels or widescreen 800 x 600 pixels (you have the choice). Once uploaded to Photobucket you can name the image and then return to the new file folder. For a second or two, hover your mouse pointer over the image. A drop down box will appear below the photograph. Left click the window to the immediate right of DIRECT LINK. Right click the mouse, then select and left click copy.
To post the image on the Bulletin Board, open the post you are replying to; above where you type your Message: you will see Add Tags. Click the button with the picture of a hill with blue sky (INSERT IMAGE).
[/img] will appear where you type the message. Move your mouse cursor between the middle brackets of
[/img] and click your left click mouse button. Next click your right mouse button, select and click (with your left mouse button) Paste from the dropdown. The link to your photograph on the hosting site is now established.
You can Preview your reply and also Spell Check before clicking Post Message.
Scanning precious photographs and storing the digital image, is the most practical method of safely keeping/archiving copies of historic photographs. Hosting services accept and store photographs in *.jpg image format. This format saves images with some compression and loss of quality. However, it is a handy format to send, receive and store images. Hosting services resize photographs to 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 pixels.
*.gif is another format with better quality, but with a large file size. If your photograph is scanned for archive purposes, consider having the scanner set to scan the longest side of the photograph at 2,000 pixels or more. This will insure a quality digital image that can be printed in the future if the original is damaged or lost.
Sometimes, photographs are scanned and saved as a *.pdf print file. This is a good format to save and send images via email, but the image file will have to be converted to *.jpg or *.gif before the image can be manipulated. There is a loss of quality with each conversion.
Computers do fail so always backup digital images onto a CD, DVD or a portable hard drive (for bulk images).
