hello everyone, i live in the Philippines (18 yrs now) and in 1992 went to corregidor with some friends and stayed there for 2 weeks roaming all over the island, our guide a very knowledgeable local showed us a tunnel in Malinta that others were not aware of, enteri the main large entrance, 3 ft or so, pause and immediate left there was a slim entrance, like a passageway that went deep inside and came out at the back of all the other tunnels, then it ran along the tunnels the full length of Malinta.
Secondly I met a "Cpt Danny" a ex-US marine who, apparently had just about dug up the whole island, he lived on the island, just past the aviary then turn right. He had so many artifacts it was quite unbelievable, watches from the nurses in the malinta tunnel, plus so many arms and machine guns. Japanese writing kits, so much.
Also he as the one who found most of the US dog tags and mounted them in the Museum, most of the stuff in the museum came from Danny i am told..Sadly his disply was removed and got really angry at the corregidor foundation people.
his last venture was digging into a tunnel which he believed was the last resting place of some US soldiers, (executed by the japs)
but he went to the US before he could finish it...and sadly passed away. Suffered from Vietnam trauma i heard...
He even removed the grave of some US soldiers and replaced them on his lot, as he was troubled that the authorities were not looking after them and also looters.
Also i met a US guy who parachuted onto Corregdor during WWII, tall slim guy with white hair, him and his friend were looking for 2 tunnels, one a supposed "secret" tunnel of MacArthur's, and another one that came out in the quarry to the right of the large main entrance........
anyway, just some minor things i have seen and heard. This site i must admit is quite amazing, spent hours reading it, and more hours to go as yet. Photo details are really top class...
regards
Alan
