My father, Joseph Egger, served in the 503d. He's almost 84, still sharp as a tack, but not computer literate. He'd love to hear from any of his old buddies. If anyone remembers him please email me privately and I can send you his address and phone number.
God bless, Rev. Jon Egger Blue Springs, MO

Dear Jon, My husband was with the 503rd; he is 86. His memory is not good. If your father has a good memory you can see if he knew Gene. Sometimes Gene was called Easy Baker (for E.B.). Gene was a very gentle person. At one time he was given the purple heart but threw it back because his buddy in the next bed at the hospital had lost his leg and all he was given was a purple heart; all Gene had was some metal in his arm. Gene made a career of the Army and served over 21 years, ending with The White House Army Communications Agency under Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson. He served in Korea but was under guard because he had been 3 years in China on a covert mission and had sensitive information so could not be captured by the enemy. He saw only the barracks, the NCO Club, and his office.
