Chad: I don’t remember getting that email with the maps and it would be great if you would send it again. Like okla I love your map from the SE Bataan which shows clearly where #2 Hospital was and the air field. I will check it out one of these years. Thanks gain.
Fireball or fots2: I love that picture of that quarantine Station Gate. Could one of you please indicate where it is exactly?

it is under the google 'hand' I had not noticed it before but there is a clear line from the lower pier (which still has numerous posts in the sea near it from when it was much larger) to the river and the longish building across the river. While it is a working hospital they seem OK with visitors to the historical / ruined buildings - just get permission from the head of admin Attachments:

 Did this cradle a torpedo? My friend Everett wrote this in regards to the above picture. Hi Karl, The "piece of concrete" lying in the tunnel looks like it could have cradled a torpedo. One of the caves stored some 50 live torpedoes that were loaded on a lighter one night and taken outside Cochinos Pt and scuttled. The old Quarantine Station appears to be in the same state it was left in after the fighting in 1945.
A great shot, hard to believe its in use, but it still appears rather sturdy.
No sign of any repair work.
Some serious battles there in 1945?....... or bombing by the Japanese in 1942 and Americans in 1945...... some damage looks like tank fire......
There was the retaking of Bataan to stop the Japanese from slipping in as the Americans and Filipino's had in 1942.
The battles around Mariveles in prelude to the attack on Corregidor.
That building had some stories to tell, going all the way back to the Spanish.
It could mean that if someone didn't pass muster being inspected on arrival to Corregidor in Spanish times, they were transferred to the Quarantine location on Bataan, like Ellis island in the New York.
The fact that it is now part of a Mental Institution will keep some of our group out of the area, might get in for a look and be asked to stay within it's walls awhile for some "observation".......

Hey Karl....That object just has to have been used to cradle a torpedo. Probably the only relic left in an area where plenty of other "fish" were stored as the Canopus Log stated. When reading the excerpt from the Log Book, I couldn't help but wonder what percentage of those "scuttled" torpedos would have been "duds" had they been loaded onto USN Submarines/PT Boats and subsequently fired at Japanese vessels out in those waters. We all are aware that the torpedos being used at this time were miserable failures and were not corrected until late 1943 (1944???). Maybe some old ex-torpedoman's mate will see this photo and educate us "illiterates". Cheers.

Re. Quarantine Station. The ruined building shown in the previous photos (officially called 'the ruined building') is still in partial use as for instance the Head Nurse has her office inside. But, there are also numerous other newer (but not new) buildings. The buildings to its right, housing admin, admissions etc look like colonial and so may be rebuilds of pre ww2 buildings. See pic. The small white 'cones' as seen just to the right of the flagpole are old shells which are used as entry posts. Attachments:
