I am gathering material in order to write an article on the construction/evolution of Fort Mills and am finding conflicting data on the 155 mm GPF batteries. Could anyone confirm the # of mounts, type of mount (field mount, 270 degree Panama Mount, etc.), and location/GPS coordinates for all 155 mm batteries? Here is my list so far:
Concepcion – 3 Panama Mount (plotted on 1936 Map)
Frank North – 3 Panama Mount (full/360 degree) (unknown location)
Hamilton (re-located Btry South) – 3 Panama Mount (270 degree) (unknown location)
Levagood - 3 Panama Mount (unknown location)
Lubang - 1 casemate (splinter proof only?) (plotted on 1936 Map)
Martin – 2 Panama Mount (plotted on 1936 Map)
Monja – 2 (1 casemate original, 1 in open added in 1940?) (plotted)
North (aka Kysor) – 2 Panama Mount (180 degree/half mount) (plotted on 1936 Map)
Ordnance Point – 6-7 positions on 1936 map, 1938 shows 4 positions (Panama Mount?) (plotted on 1936 Map)
Rock Point - 1 (from RCW) or 2 (from Case Report) Panama Mount (180 degree/half mount) (unknown location)
South – 2 positions (is this the position near Geary Point/Btry Crockett on the 1936 Map?)
Stockade – 2 field mount/gun blocks? (plotted on 1936 Map)
Sunset – 4 Panama Mount (180 degree?) (plotted)
Un-named batteries from the 1936 Map
James Ravine – 1 semi-fixed position
Near Btry Cheney – 2 semi-fixed positions
In addition, I am looking for additional primary source material that covers the construction of 1940-1941? The Moore Report is all I can find, and it has what appear to be numerous inaccuracies (states Batteries Sunset, Rock Point, Monja constructed in 1940 vice 1937, etc).
