T2
As I recall the area near the east entrance is too steep. The beginning of the trail starts just off the North Shore road, if memory serves.
And for a couple of hundred extra pesos, I am sure there will be someone willing to tear themselves away to help you.

Absolutely BV a few hundred pesos would be well worth it indeed. I have stumbled upon a Nov 22 2011 post from fots2 mapping a route up the NE side and I have actually been up that ravine to that ventilation shaft above the hospital tunnel. Once again I sort of knew what I was looking at but never pursued it any farther. Excellent, thank you again bv

Thank you as well "armyjunk" I have been looking at that clearing for some time since my last visit and you have motivated me to do some recon. I passed by there on a walkabout last year coming back from Battery Denver. The trails and roads are still evident in your screenshot. I can now see the south road coming all the way in to join north road and I have added a couple of screenshots to compare. This area is labelled as 25 43 Malinta Hill Trail. It's amazing how a simple request inspires a flood of great information...the exact reason Paul said to post it all.

I want to put a little SITREP out there for discussion. On my walkabout my route was north road, as I came down this hill I came across a ravine, on the left between the 2 arrow signs. This is where I found a vent shaft which turns out to be close to the north tunnel entrance. Look above the second metal guard rail post. You can see the white crest from the north tunnel entrance.

So this is what I found. I was trying to put it all together with some of fots2 findings and realize I am actually in a totally different area to fots2. I guess there are a few vent shafts about which are not labelled on the maps.

This shaft has a 45* slope all the way down and appears to be located on the 150' contour...in the ravine contour as well, but to the East of where fots2 was.

This is directly above the vent shaft and looks like a clearing of sorts. Hmmmm this may be my passage to the summit....haha life is full of choices!

Good day T2,
You found the surface opening of the Malinta Tunnel NE air shaft. The air shaft near the hospital tunnel entrance, #2 in the trip report above, is the NW air shaft. As you mentioned, they are not shown on maps.
If you continue up this little ravine past the air shaft, you will soon see a 75mm gun position with a stone and concrete embankment in front of it. This position never had a concrete roof over it.
Further up the ravine you will emerge onto an old road along the top of a ridge. This is today’s hiking trail to the top of Malinta Hill. Turn left to go to RJ43 or turn right up go up the hill. It is a bit steep but not a difficult climb up this ravine.
Happy New Year everyone!
