I have always had a strange fascination with Corregidor’s tunnels. Among the most interesting are the Malinta Navy Tunnels. Few details are known about them and no new information has surfaced in the past few years. Out of the five constructed, three tunnels (Affirm, Baker and Dog) are completely buried today however we do know their locations. EXO and oozlefinch both mentioned earlier in this thread that one of them was open at least twice but only for a short time due to the unstable hillside above them. From a few sources I have gathered some photos of the entrances. Most are poor quality but I thought I would post the best of them. These images are from May of 1942 just after the surrender. Notice all the people standing outside the tunnels. I wonder if they are POWs that have not been moved to the 92nd Garage area yet. Fots2, Is that my half moon shaped tube concrete, I wrote about? Fots2, do you think that object is the half moon shaped tube concrete shelter which could have been used for radio the way the cable holes are angled? I would put it in about that place. That would shoot my theory to bits, that the concrete to the left of it, about 20 feet, was part of the right one of those three tunnels.

Karl, Wow, great eyes there. That does look like the “half moon” domed structure and as you say, it is located right about there. It is even oriented correctly. I am not sure what it was used for but you have a great suggestion. Crop of a poor photo to make an even poorer photo. I see your "half moon" concrete building though. There is concrete to the left of this structure but I don’t know what that was. Concrete to the left of the “half moon” structure Did you notice the road passing above the tunnels in those photos? That road is still there today.

YES I WALKED THAT ROAD ALL THE WAY TO SAN JOSE PT. Yes John, I have walked that road and it is really still fine as one follows it around the ravine or the other quarry area at right; it practically ends above San Jose Point. Your one picture and my two images back to you, after your question I looked at the pictures a bit closer and certainly noticed a change. When was your picture shot? Mine were shot in April 2015. W92 fots2 image but I don’t know when it was shot; I marked all the rebar that seems to be gone in my pictures in April 2015. I have a similar picture from 2009 and most the rebar is still there. This is what I call a Half Moon Tube like Concrete Shelter; it is located above and in between Number 3 and 4 Navy tunnel entrances in Malinta Hill, on Corregidor Island, of the 5 Navy Tunnel entrances we know of. W93 this picture was shot 2015-04-14, it is not close but no rebar can be seen that is in the previous image number W92 W94 this picture is also from 2015-04-14, it is too close but that rebar seen in image # W92 is not there anymore. hello everyone, I've wondered about those 3 holes in the shelters myself, the Oil Rooms for Smith and Hearn also have them. On the drawing they call them ventilators, so I guess they are just that...

If I can get my arse in gear (ArmyJunk can testify that it's not something I do well), I will try and find it in my slides and scan it into my computer and, maybe, get it here. However, it is not one of the tunnels above, it is either one of the tunnels further south in the quarry that are currently open, or another one further west that is now covered up. We'll see if I can ever find the slide. In looking at the photos of the 3 tunnels you've posted, they appear to all have concrete wingwalls, and the northern one (the left one in the pictures) appears to have a curved, or vaulted, ceiling. If so, it would appear that they weren't just hastily dug.
