Corregidor Visit with USMC Attaché and corregidor.org webmaster. 3rd Segment of 6 images, walking to the 92nd Garage via the Japanese Peace Garden Teamed up with the USMC Attaché Mark Broekhuizen and Paul Whitman, corregidor.org webmaster (EXO) and visited Corregidor. We stayed 2 days. First Day, 17th Dec. 2014, 3rd Segment of 6 images, walking to the 92nd Garage via the Japanese Peace Garden After we looked over the Kindley Airfield and the Jabidah Massacre/Incident Marker we walked to the 92nd Garage via the Japanese Peace Garden and took the shortcut up to Malinta Tunnel east entrance road passed the concrete infantry trench. 6 pictures of our walk to the 92nd Garage via the Japanese Peace Garden have been uploaded into this Photobucket album. s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Corregidor%20at%20Random/CI%202015-2016%20Random%20Albums/USMC%20Attache%20PFW%202016-12-17?sort=9&page=1The same 6 pictures are presented here but are much smaller: V483. (161217e the Japanese Peace Garden.01). To me, looking at this Japanese remembrance marker, which indentifies the unit that stormed Corregidor, paying a high price for it, is almost like putting a face on the enemy. V484. (161217e the Japanese Peace Garden.01a). Close-up of the last image; to me, looking at this Japanese remembrance marker, which indentifies the unit that stormed Corregidor, paying a high price for it, is almost like putting a face on the enemy. V485. (161217e the Japanese Peace Garden.01b). The English portion of the last image; to me, looking at this Japanese remembrance marker, which indentifies the unit that stormed Corregidor, paying a high price for it, is almost like putting a face on the enemy. V486. (161217e the Japanese Peace Garden.04). This is a plaque posted under cover at the Japanese Peace Garden. Again to me this is like putting a face on the enemy and it shows they paid a heavy price in the service of their country. V487. (161217e the Japanese Peace Garden.05). To me, this picture also presence a unique piece of Corregidor history, that the Japanese cemetery was established, was forgotten, and for the action of one man the Japanese Fallen were attended to by their custom. V488. (161217f a concrete column on the way to 92nd Garage). Just as we passed the Japanese Peace Garden and started down on the road descending to the 92nd Garage we noticed this concrete column. What was it, next time I will check it out?

Corregidor Visit with USMC Attaché and corregidor.org webmaster. 4th Segment of 8 images, exploring the RJ43 Tunnel again walking from the 92nd Garage to Bottomside. (Sorry, in the album it is actually in the 3rd position) Teamed up with the USMC Attaché Mark Broekhuizen and Paul Whitman, corregidor.org webmaster (EXO) and visited Corregidor. We stayed 2 days. First Day, 17th Dec. 2014, 4th Segment of 8 images, walking from the 92nd Garage to Bottomside and explored the RJ43 Tunnel again. After we climbed up from 92nd Garage we decided to return to the Freedom Café for lunch. We used the North Shore Road and decided to explore the RJ43 Tunnel. Besides the tunnel there was much to talk about this stretch of Corregidor, the Officer Beach, the concrete trenches, Battery RJ43, the trail up to Malinta Hill, the Road Junction 43 (RJ43), the Malinta Hill Tunnel north exit, the other and smaller tunnels, the Enlisted Men Beach, the structures there, the fight gaining and defending Malinta Hill in 1945 and so on. 8 pictures of our walk from the 92nd Garage to Bottomside and exploring the RJ43 Tunnel again. s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Corregidor%20at%20Random/CI%202015-2016%20Random%20Albums/USMC%20Attache%20PFW%202016-12-17?sort=9&page=1The same 8 pictures are presented here but are much smaller: V495. (161217d RJ43 Tunnel,120 steps long.01). Mark Broekhuizen entered the RJ43 Tunnel and this is a shot of Mark, looking back at the entrance. V496. (161217d RJ43 Tunnel,120 steps long.01a). This is the RJ43 Tunnel drawing made by Bow Porter and Bob Gretchen. It is available at this Corregidor.org web page. corregidor.org/x-info/tunnl.htmV497. (161217d RJ43 Tunnel,120 steps long.03). This is a large tunnel; I measured at counting my steps, which were 120. The distance/length numbers in the previous image add up to 335 feet. That jives about with my 120 paces or steps. V498. (161217d RJ43 Tunnel,120 steps long.04). In this picture one can see the imprint of rail ties in RJ43 Tunnel, the tunnel diggers must have used rail card on tracks to dump the earth. V499. (161217d RJ43 Tunnel,120 steps long.05). The RJ43 Tunnel bends two times; it is high and wide so it is easy to walk. If you study the material in the links at the end of this presentation you will learn, a large snake and knee deep water were encountered before. V500. (161217d RJ43 Tunnel,120 steps long.06). This is a close up of the previous shot and we have a clearer shot of that container. There were discussions as to who built this tunnel. I am sure it was the Soldiers, Sailors and Marines of the 4th Marines. V501. (161217d RJ43 Tunnel,120 steps long.07). I read in one of the 4th Marine histories that the troops of the 1st Battalion built this tunnel. They manned the beach defenses in this area. I had a little trouble finding the vent hole but did after a little effort. V502. (161217d RJ43 Tunnel,120 steps long.08). Every year the underbrush, the thicket is getting worse. This picture illustrates that and that is the reason we had some trouble finding the entrance. I this picture, we are departing. This time we saw no snakes or water in the tunnel. Corregidor Visit with USMC Attaché and corregidor.org webmaster. 5th Segment of 2 images, checking out the Corregidor Inn renovation. Teamed up with the USMC Attaché Mark Broekhuizen and Paul Whitman, corregidor.org webmaster (EXO) and visited Corregidor. We stayed 2 days. First Day, 17th Dec. 2014, 5th Segment of 2 images, checking out the Corregidor Inn renovation. We explored the Engineering Ravine, and then we looked at the Corregidor Inn and the renovation job. My impression is they got a long way to go. It was Saturday late afternoon, so we did not see any workers. Then we called it a day and did what we often do, share some beer and discuss the history of Corregidor. 2 pictures of us checking out the Corregidor have been added into this Album about Karl’s trips s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Corregidor%20at%20Random/CI%202015-2016%20Random%20Albums/USMC%20Attache%20PFW%202016-12-17?sort=9&page=1All 36 images about the Corregidor Inn renovation were put into this separate album in Photobucket and are in this URL: s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Corregidor%20by%20subject/CI%20Subalbum%20No%202/Corregidor%20Inn%202016-12-17?sort=9&page=1The same 2 pictures are presented here but are much smaller: V535. This is the 1st picture. The Corregidor Inn, marked up for you orientation in the album, showing the progress or lack of it in the renovation project of the hotel, as of 2016-12-17. V536. 2016-12-17 Corregidor Inn visit by Paul Whitman and Karl Welteke, this is the 2nd floor of the Corregidor Inn under renovation. There are three other option to stay overnight on Corregidor. You can rough it and bring a tent; there is a 50 peso fee. And you got to make sure you got return transportation. You can stay at the former MacArthur Café, (called now the Freedom Café) if you want the telephone number to the manager, tell me and I will send it. You can stay at the CFI Rowhouse, 700 peso to the room. It has a fan, bed and comfort room.

Corregidor Visit with USMC Attaché and corregidor.org webmaster. The 6th segment and last one; 18 images have been put into this album from our visit to the ex Fort Mills on Corregidor Island on this 17th of Dec. 2016. This is the album and it only covers the first day, they are at the end of the 2nd page in the album: s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Corregidor%20at%20Random/CI%202015-2016%20Random%20Albums/USMC%20Attache%20PFW%202016-12-17?sort=9&page=1Teamed up with the USMC Attaché Mark Broekhuizen and Paul Whitman, corregidor.org webmaster (EXO) and visited Corregidor. We stayed 2 days. In the afternoon we checked out Engineering Ravine and started out with Mine Cable Basins and the Instrument bunker. Then we went up to the trolley track and checked out the Trolley Station, the Ammunition Storage building #533 and the collapsed trolley bridge over the original building rail track, Magazine Building 533 is collapsed now. Back down in the Eng. Ravine we looked at the two power plants, old and new; then the new Bio-Gas Pwr.-Plant and discussed some other point about this location. Then we looked at the Corregidor Inn and the renovation job. My impression is they got a long way to go. It was Saturday late afternoon, so we did not see any workers. Then we called it a day and did what we often do, share some beer and discuss the history of Corregidor. In this forum presentation, I only present 9 of the 18 images in the album and they are much smaller: V546. (161217g 0 drawing Eng. Rav). This Fort Mills, on Corregidor Island, drawing will help to find the location of most of the next and last 17 images in the album. V547. (161217g Ammo Mag. 533 collapsed.02). Walls or wreckage of the magazine, building 533, just above the Engineering Ravine and next to the Fort Mills Trolley Line on Corregidor Island. Only a few years ago we still could walk inside. A tree that has slid on top of the magazine, building 533 from the slope above it and collapsed this magazine, shown in anther picture in the album. V548. (161217h Trolley Bridge over rail track.01). This is the ex Fort Mills, on Corregidor Island Trolley Line Bridge over the original Fort Mills building rail track which is next to the magazine #533, we had a look. Part of the west support collapsed onto the east support. V549. (161217i Diesel Pwr.Plant, missing pipe.00). This 16th Feb. 2009 image of the ex Fort Mills, on Corregidor Island shows a metal pipe in the left upper corner of the image. In a later year it was gone and we tried to figure out how it was removed. This is the former diesel power plant of Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. V550. (161217i Diesel Pwr.Plant, missing pipe.02). This is a 2016 image but the pipe was removed a few years earlier. The purpose of this visit was to find out where the pipe had come from and how it was removed. This is the Diesel Power Plant of ex Fort Mills, on Corregidor Island. Whatever that missing pipe was attached to, is now gone also, so we drew a blank. V551. (161217j Bio-Gas.Pwr.Plant Eng.-Rav..01). This biogas power plant in the Engineering Ravine on Corregidor Island is being worked on now for more than a year; it seems to be ready but I cannot tell whether it is operating yet. On our visit the diesel generators were providing power on the island. V552. (161217k Eng.-Rav. Corregidor.01). On an island situation like Corregidor it is only a matter of time and derelict vehicles collect, then every so often they get taken care of. This is in the Engineering Ravine on Corregidor Island. V553. (161217k Eng.-Rav. Corregidor.02). These two oil or fuel tanks do not get any younger. The map drawing indicates two tanks in about that location and with all the splinter holes we can assume they are also WWII casualties. V554. (161217r Corregidor Inn,Rec-Center.03). These bags of cut wood chips and the pile of brush twigs are actually sitting at the Sun Cruises recreation center but are the same as the ones at the biogas plant, so we can assume they are for that project. The Rec.-Center is near the ex MacArthur Café. These bags and all the doors and windows of the hotel renovation are stored here.

Corregidor Inn 2017-02-16 This is an update of the Corregidor Inn renovation, progress documentation. We visited Corregidor on 2017-02-15 to the 17th and took these pictures of the Corregidor Inn renovation. We heard that 32 workers are now on the island busy with this project and there are more electricians. It seemed to me they are making progress and I speculate that the Corregidor Inn may be back in operation for the next tourist season in Nov. 2017, perhaps. We uploaded 48 pictures into this album: s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Corregidor%20by%20subject/CI%20Subalbum%20No%202/Corregidor%20Inn%202017-02-16?sort=9&page=1Here are 14 sample images but they are much smaller than in the album, except that one drawing: V590. Karl
Good pictures and great work as you always provide.
I checked all the pics in photobucket and I did not see any pictures of the work being done in the bathrooms of the rooms. Do you have any or were they just not that far along? I would love to see that progress.
In my opinion, the charm of this hotel was the somewhat dated french colonial look of the interior halls and rooms. At first glance it appears as though they are going for a more modern, whitewashed look. Is that the impression you got after touring it? I have to say I am somewhat disappointed in it, HOWEVER, I am going to hold judgement on it for not only when they are finished but when I can finally see the results in person. I refuse to prejudge it, just hoping for great results. I feel, like many of us on this site that we have a vested interest in the outcome. Am praying for the best.

Beirutvet No work has started yet on the bathroom fittings, but the old ones are all removed. The windows are going to changed, aluminum frames. I believe there will be screens for opening windows.

Corregidor-visit with an old school friend 2017-03-14 to 16. This is the first time I took Klaus (my German school friend) onto Corregidor, 2017-03-14 to 16, and showed him around. I checked out some things by myself and made separate albums for these items. So, all pictures that did not get into a separate album are placed here. This album has 47 images; this is the URL: s74.photobucket.com/user/PI-Sailor/library/Corregidor%20at%20Random/CI%202017-2019%20Random%20Albums/Klaus%20on%20Corregidor%202017-03-14%20to%2016?sort=9&page=1In this forum presentation I used 17 images but they are much smaller: V807. (-46). This is a random picture in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. On the island the Corregidor Foundation Inc (CFI) maintains a lot of landscaping and this is how the daily watering task is being performed, Bravo Zulu. V808. (-1). Left are the Villa Carmen boats in Cabcaben on Bataan, we just departed for the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island from here. V809. (03). One of 4 pictures in the former Ft. Mills on Corregidor Island; this is the boat landing area inside the North Mine Dock area. The Sun Cruises ferry has arrived and we see two large boats which are available for hire. V810. (09). One of 5 pictures in the former Ft. Mills on Corregidor Island in the area of the Lorcha Dock, this is where Gen MacArthur departed in 1942. Corregidor Foundation Inc has this sign here asking the public to help about the trash in Manila Bay. On this visit 2017-03-14 the trash problem was a lot less, mainly because the wind direction has shifted on several days. V811.(-12). One of 2 pictures at the former MacArthur Café, now it is the Freedom Café in the former Ft. Mills on Corregidor Island. My friend Klaus and I are enjoying a Red Horse beer and pancit at the Freedom Café. V812. (-14). One of 9 pictures on, from or around the south shore of Bottomside in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. This view is from San Jose Point, at left, all the way to Hooker Point, at right, the east end of Corregidor. V813. (-15). One of 9 pictures on, from or around the south shore of Bottomside in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. This is part of the new tsunami warning system, this is at the end of the South Shore Mine Dock. V814. (-24). One of 4 pictures from or around San Jose Point at the south shore of Bottomside in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. I am standing at San Jose Point; this south road around Malinta Hill is now blocked due to rock slides. V815. (-25). One of 4 pictures from or around Corregidor Foundation Inc. Admin Building at Bottomside in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. The picture on the wall attracted my interest. It seems the present Admin Building is a duplicate of those buildings in the picture. V816. (-28). One of 4 pictures from or around Corregidor Foundation Inc. Admin Building at Bottomside in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. This is a sign of a recent event that the Corregidor Foundation Inc helped to organize. V817.(-29). One of 5 pictures around or near the Engineering Dock at Bottomside in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. This is the only Japanese gun in its original position and is not far above the Engineering Dock. V818.(-30). One of 5 pictures around or near the Engineering Dock at Bottomside in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. At right are the Engineering Dock and the Sun Cruises ferry just departed with the daily visitors. V819. (-33). One of 5 pictures around or near the Engineering Dock at Bottomside in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. Next to the Engineering Dock these flower trees were planted, I wondered will they grow-they did! V820. (-36). One of 6 pictures at, around or near Battery Way on Middleside in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. This is next Battery Way and at right are steps that lead to the 2nd radio building of Fort Mills. V821. (-38). One of 6 pictures at, around or near Battery Way on Middleside in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. This is near Battery Way and we found these black ants on an organized march, we had to look closer. V822. (-42). This is a random picture in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. At left is the Trolley east end station but I took this picture because of that rise at right; on my next visit I want to have a closer look. V823. (-45). This is a random picture in the former Fort Mills on Corregidor Island. This is the Pacific War Memorial at Topside on Corregidor Island; the view is to the west from the eternal flame symbol.
